It clearly tells your what to do, retard.

If you're not testing every single out of those thousands possible fixes you're not gonna make it in the linux game

It's an euphemism for 'Install Gentoo'
ITT: one less retard who cannot even read (because it's literally on the image what to do) using Linux. All is good with the world.
Here's you (You) Rajeet, now pack your shit and hit the road.

we're just collecting some information, then we will restart for you ok? :)
If the OS knows what's wrong and how to fix it why doesn't it just do it automatically or just gives you a Y/N prompt to run the fixes?
>>60371451
1. When shutting down a computer you should not hold the powerbutton because that might destroy some important files
2. Your hard drive is dying
>>60371881
so users can have exact control over what they do to sort it out
>>60371881
Depending on your setup, you might have to do a lot more than just running fsck out of the blue.
Corrupt filesystem most likely caused by Windows not shutting down properly and doing its hibernate bullshit.
Could also be caused by not shutting down Linux properly but far less likely.
literally go fsck yourself
>>60371881
fsck is like a hammer, the OS doesn't know how hard you want to hit

Yeah, nah.

running 'fsck' does nothing
running 'fsck /dev/sda5 -y runs a very long check and then I get a new error when I try to exit. wtf?
>>60371886
I did a proper shutdown after the install. That was what I got when I came back.
>>60371451
Mint actually werks. Get on my level
>>60372088
What version of ubuntu are you running?
Because i remember a filesystem bug existing with LTS when booting to windows when dual booting.
>>60372141
The new one, 17.04.
>>60372088
You need to let the long check finish.
>shutting windows down with power button all the time
>never had any problems restarting
is linux really this shit you can't hard reset it
>>60372215
I let it finish before that pic. I didn't interrupt it.
Now I'm trying 'e2fsck /dev/sda5 -b 32768'. I probably should have used -y. Now I'm going to be holding down Y for the rest of the afternoon.
>>60372182
Try rebooting
type "reboot"
If that does not work you might need to this" fsck /dev/sdax -y" wit every linux partition you have(x is a number)
Windows probably had an improper shutdown again.
>>60372088
If it's a fresh install, I see two possibilities:
1. The partition creation fucked up. I seriously doubt it.
2. The hard disk is dying.
>>60372309
Thank you.
And for those complaining about hard resets, it's 8.1 on the first partition and I do the proper shutdown. I'm not an animal (mostly). If Windows is fucking up it's happening out of my sight.
>>60372264
Pressing the powerbutton is not the problem the problem is when you hold it
That shit stops immediately and fucks files up
Remember that in a year when you have problems with the PSU ,harddrive ,cpu and in general everything
>>60372367
If you want to avoid that go to windows 8.1 and stop that hibernation/poweroff thing feature it has there is probably a good guide on the internet
>>60372309
I tried reboot after the e2fsck finished and now I'm back at the original error. Trying your suggested command.
>>60372424
I thought I'd switched it off but I'll go double check.
This laptop's fucking retarded, btw. HP 8560w, it's constantly in turbo mode even if the CPU is doing nothing. I'll do a smart check but if this isn't fixed today I think I'll send the pos back.
>>60372309
>If that does not work you might need to this" fsck /dev/sdax -y"
Finished this operation, 'reboot' and I'm back to the original error.
/dev/sda5: Block bitmap for group 640 is not in group. (block 1162627398)
I'm going to check 8.1 for hibernation bs and then do a fresh ubuntu install. And a SMART check. Ugh.
>>60371451
I too have had some problems with Linux distro installs before. That was the main reason I moved on to Thinkpads. Some laptops won't practically work at all while Thinkpads work perfectly. It might be compatibility issue if you can't get one installed. Usually newer kernels support more hardware so a distro that's using a very recent kernel might work better.
>>60372650
Try running e2fsck with the -b 32768 option like it suggests.
It's possible the HDD has bad sectors and this tries fsck with a different superblock that might not be corrupted.
Also, fsck has the -c option that checks and flags bad block so the filesystem won't use them. You can use for a second run of fsck if you manage to repair the filesystem.
>>60372927
>Try running e2fsck with the -b 32768 option like it suggests.
Did that:
>>60372266
Passmark's Diskcheckup says the drive is fine. It's passed a short test and I've just started an extended test.
If this is caused by Windows having problems with shutting down shouldn't there be Error Log entries?
>>60372464
Ask for them to clean the fans new laptops have quite shitty cooling and fill up with tons of dust
>>60373487
I've been thinking about that as well. I'll be hitting the fan ports with a blower when this smart est is done. And yes, I'll jam the fan so it doesn't break.
Alright, it passed the extensive SMART test. I rebooted from the ubuntu USB and did a fresh install. The clicked restart. And now I'm sitting on pic related.
Tell me again that I'm the problem.

pic related if full of info, and considering you fail to even install the easiest to install distro u clearly are a retard who should stick to using windows.
So I used the power button to shutdown. I rebooted into ubuntu recovery mode and ran fsck and then dpkg. Everything came back okay. Now I'm in ubuntu and update is running.
I'm waiting to see if it chokes again on the next boot...

If you're not using linux for better customization and workflow , use cases where it's easyer than windows (web dev , running a server , other shit) , or just enjoy fiddling with a new OS just drop it.
I use xubuntu on my 8 year old laptop to do web stuff and it's a fucking godsend , for everything else , windows got me covered.
>>60371451
>sda5
It looks you tried to install to and boot from the flash drive you had the installer on
>>60376063
You are the problem. As the image said (and you would know if you had read it), the descriptors of the primary block group are bad. I don't know why you expect a disk check to fix it when it was your fault for creating a faulty LiveUSB. Better go back to Windows fag.
>implying you will be able to create a proper Windows LiveUSB
>>60377138
This
If you want a serviceable distro with deb packages just use ubuntu / mint
>>60377174
I'm looking at xubuntu now, thanks.
