Because retarded nigger sysadmins left their SMB shares on port 445 exposed to the internet, and those same retarded faggots didn't patch their system with a 2 month old patch.

Other people to blame: MS for pajeet tier exploitable code, NSA for hoarding the SMB exploit and thinking their sploits will never be leaked, shadowbrokers for leaking them after the patch was only available for a month.

If anything I'm happy this is getting so much attention though, maybe now people will start talking about how government-sponsored exploits aren't safe, none of this would have happened if NSA reported the exploit to MS instead of weaponizing it.

To be safe, close the port from as many areas as possible. Not just on your computer, but in your router too. You can google how to close specific ports just to be safe.

I would also manually disable the SMB service. MS has a tutorial on how to do it through the registry, but I personally went into "turn off windows features" and unclicked the SMB process.

I would update, but screw microsoft's shoddy update service, and their windows update catalog is broken too.

Nope. I can autistically trade hats online in TF2 and build crap in Terraria without trouble. From my understanding, it'll only be a problem if you try hosting servers, or hooking up to printers.
