Vista is still in normal support mode and already received the patch

XP, Server 2003 and the original version of Windows 8 (not win 8.1) are deprecated and end-of-life and were no longer receiving patches until today

I'd love to, I've been trying for few months but it just doesn't happen.
This is not a freshly installed system either, I've got all updates up until late 2016, but I haven't used this PC for about a month in December, few updates have accumulated and now it's bugged out. I just can't update. It's stuck on downloading updates, 0KB total, 0%.

It uses 100% of my one CPU core, so you'd think it does something, but no.

I managed to update few times this year, last being somewhere in April. Most of the time it just doesn't happen though.
>>

So what, if it was $20 which these things sometimes are, then it's not a big deal.

Don't buy DreamSpark keys at all, I assume that's students selling ones they got for free. They will expire, that's what happens with those keys.

Do whatever you want, odds are one in those 5 selling OEM keys won't be a scam. My freundin from Germany bought Windows 10 key from amazon.de for 17€ and it was fine.

t. Microsoft shill

The older systems are fine. They are forcing forced redundancy on them. That's literally all it is, making money. There is no obligation to be forced to upgrade to their spyware, restrictive, pay-per-month bullshit.

Exactly because of that.

Even going a year back I remember visiting my parents, having a sit down on their computer, and not being able to do shit because nothing I needed was supported anymore on XP.

Customers support is a paid option. NHS were paying Microsoft £5.5m a year for extended patches to XP until 2015. If Microsoft gave them away for free they couldn't charge companies willing to pay up
>>
>>60366244
>NHS were paying Microsoft £5.5m a year for extended patches to XP until 2015.
Then why were they still using XP systems there in 2017??
>>
>>60366267
If they have legacy drivers that only work in XP for specialist machines then they can't upgrade without buying new expensive specialist machines that are supported on a more modern OS.
Just like how some nukes/missiles and such are still controlled with 1970/80s era hardware and software.

install KB3102810 while the windows update process is turned off (I assume you know how to turn it off) and after a restart it should work fine.

And if well written, make it impossible to flash your BIOS with a clean image so the virus stays resident in the machine until you physically remove and replace the BIOS chip.

That's exactly how it can be infected over the SMB.
And that's why I've got all shares, NetBIOS over TCP/IP and shit like that disabled, because my ex roommate told me updates slow down his computer and that he hasn't picked up a virus in 10 years. I didn't want his PC to spread germs on mine.
