This. The best way to use a desktop is to treat it as a literal desktop. You know, a space on top of your desk.
Do you clutter it full of shit? No, unless you're a messy. You use it as a temporary workspace and then clean up after you're done.
Do whatever you wanna do on it with your files, after that save the stuff you want to keep, and then Ctrl+A Del Enter everything that remains to clean up.
