The worst ransomware in history is due to Microsoft's incompetence. People will die because they won't be able to call cops, get surgeries, get 911 etc.

I think it's fair to ask: will this incident kill Microsoft and kill Windows?
>>
>>60357255

Nope, they will blame the users for not updating to Windows 10.
>>

Shouldve gotten Windows 10.

It was patched months ago. The problem is incompetent admins not bothering to update their systems.
You're probably one of the same retards who were shitting on ms for forcing security updates in win 10 and disabling them on 7 to avoid the telemetry boogeyman.

Its not linux, its windows being shit.

Using an analogy, its the fighter (windows) that is ultra shitty, not the wizard (linux kernel os) that is so powerfull. Thats why the wizard is way better than the fighter because the fighter is ultra mega super shit.

Said that, bsd is ok, linux is ok and some others too you dont need to specifically go to linux, leaving windows is the important bit here

The CIA has a hand in this also. Windows put updates out like a month a go to stop this. If the worm penetrates your network walla nd gets to your server you can update cause of whatever shit you are running on them kiss your ass goodbye.

Read only backup onto a drive that unplugs right now.

yeah but this is 2017 not 2007. sergey yougslavhhf and his team of hackers have finally figured out that people don't click links like 13427891.virus.com anymore, there are many ways that one can make a link, html embedded or not, seem fine unless you are paying super close attention 24/7.

as an aside, I'm surprised this thing isn't spreading faster. if this thing is really as viral as people are saying (clicking a link, opening an email) then I'm surprised hackers aren't already buying up shitty popup-ad traffic from 3rd party DSPs like PopAds and just spreading it like that.

I think the worst thing to come out of this is the fact that shitty """"""""""tech"""""""""" companies like Office Depot will use this to scam end users into buying antivirus software and shitty, overpriced computer repairs.

I work at Office Depot and I'm going to tell my managers about this tomorrow and use it to sell actual software feces (McAfee) to customers. I'm a freetard with a job and this makes it hard for me to sleep at night, but I need the money.

It's not that hard unless people work day and night and the whole IT setup is shit.
Besides, you don't do automatic updates in a setup like that, you push updates through active directory or whatever that shit is called.

This is 100% the fault of shitty admins. Waiting two weeks before mass deployment might be reasonable, but two months is retarded.

Actually I'm quite impressed with the amount of metadata going in and out of Windows Operating Systems. Nothing can even compare. Even if a system that is disconnected to the WAN/Internet windows got it covered with System Volume Information (tm). It's really impressive IMO. They have the most sophisticated technology to spy on billions of people. Ads are just the 'creamy' distraction at the top to make you think Microsoft is going broke.

>>
>>60369950
Why is MS Stupid?
They patched this in March... for all (then) supported OSes. (Vista was still under support then)

XP (and out of support product) got a patch today too (but only today, not in march, except for the gov/corp customers paying for XP support, who got it in march)
>>
>>60370635
>normal people don't use their computers to do those things
No, but they do use their work computers for it, which apparently if your an NHS employee/doctor/nurse/etc that means your PC which may be critical to lives ov your patients, is suddenly inaccessible or that a PC controlling an CT-Scanner might suddenly be unavailable, preventing use of that crucial diagnostic test.

If some doofus setup a phone system on Windows, it could prevent employees being able to call out in an emergency (Nortel phone systems ran on Windows - I'm glad they're out of business, but many people might still be using old nortel hardware...)
>>
>>60357277

Telemetry can be bypassed thorugh your hosts files! all teh telemetry servers are known public IPs, find them, block them

Get a seperate section for the telemetry servers needed for the windows updates, comment them out of the hosts files once you want to update and then enble them again.

My hosts files is approximatelly 400 lines now, but I have Windows10, latest builds and not a single piece of info goes baclk to Micorsoft. There are also 3rd party software which do a similar job.

A little bit of research and you will find all the info you need. Do not be a pleb
