Is SICP really worth going through or should I just focus on real world programming?
I'm partly through chapter 3 and there has been nothing mind blowing. I know that later in the books concepts such as streams, macros, and other things come up but I don't know what value they have.

Of course it's worth it. It's not like it's that big of a time investment in the bigger picture of programming. You ask the question because you're trying to find a way to be lazy and not study through it.
