Are they worth it? I got CUDA-related stuff to crunch.

Heh, no, not worth it at all. There are these new things nowadays called desktops. They're like laptops that you can't move but they're more powerful.
>>60353282
Yea, but the built-in speakers are pretty good for a laptop and it comes with Garage Band. Does your computer even run Garage Band?

laptop eGPU >>>>> No GPU
Desktop GPU > laptop eGPU
please fuck off

You could but a moderately priced thin and light device and a moderately priced desktops, getting the best of both worlds. Or, you could get a laptop capable of keeping up with a mid range GPU for your workload and end up with a single, expensive, ungodly hybrid that does both your tasks worse.
You asked if it was worth it, I gave you the answer. Reality disagreeing with you is not grounds for butthurt anon.
Get a 1050-1060. Unless its not that intensive and you just need a CUDA capable card. If that's the case, get a 1030. You could get a used 6/7/900 series used card.

Sell the fagbook and get a real laptop with a real GPU built in.
