THIS IS THE HOSTILE GNU/LINUX THREAD

GNU/Linux sucks, use superior GNU/NT instead.

install gentoo
>>60351643
It's gnu/nt, windows is a subsystem, like gnu
>>60351007
>GNU/Linux
Is that the new Windows app? Why would I be hostile towards it?
I love the concept of this based thread. Fuck Linux, yeah.
Says a gentoo user. :)
fuckin cunts
I manage thousands of Linux servers at work with a macbook pro. COME AT ME
>>60354798
How did you get a job managing Linux servers? What schooling or certifications did you get ahead of time?
>>60354949
not him, but believe me when i say that there are a fuckload of servers running linux.
>>60354993
Yea I want to work with Linux computers for a living, but I want to avoid Windows computers. Like, I dont even want to learn anything about Windows at all. So what sort of schooling should I take (preferably certificates, not a full associates) to get a job managing Linux machines? Im thinking programming makes the most sense, followed perhaps by networking
>>60354949
I first started messing with linux in 1996, I'm an old fag. Anyway in the mid 2000s I had a generalist network admin job and spent all my downtime literally installing Gentoo and messing with Linux stuff, then when there was an opening on the Linux team where I worked I was offered it and took it. I now work for a big saas company.
>>60354798
I also manage linux servers from a macbook pro for work
>>60355099
also not that guy, but I have a degree in CS. my official job title is devops but I would call myself an infrastructure / systems engineer / architect
I know windows (enterprise - AD, DNS, etc), linux, programming, etc
my degree gave me proficiency in software dev / programming and work experience is where I learned windows, linux, systems architecture and sysadmin
>>60355191
I'm that other guy, and just like this anon I too still have to touch Windows stuff and have a similar role. I don't really manage any Windows services, but I still have to connect things to Active Directory, automate Linux stuff that involves windows, etc. You can't really escape Windows unless you're working for a small tech company.
I also have a CS background, although I dropped out of college (I don't recommend this, I've been very lucky).
Definitely learn programming, this will get you further than anything else.
>>60355305
>>60355191
thanks
>Definitely learn programming
awesome, thats my plan, unless I do something like join the military and do who knows what
>>60351007
FUCK YOU
>>60355305
yea I kinda think windows, at least the enterprise applications, is an important thing to know if you can. I don't directly use it at my current job but I have to know it and interface with microsoft protocols and systems
Microsoft Active Directory is actually really well done, there's a reason it is the ubiquitous LDAP solution.
>>60356399
on the systems / operations / infrastructure side of things it is becoming more and more important to know programming - not just a single language but to have an understanding of programming principles and the ability (like any good software dev) to pick up a new language and write good code.
It used to be that knowing how to script easily was good enough for this type of role, but automation is becoming ever expansive and you see this role becoming increasingly responsible for developing in-house tooling, software and systems
>>60356399
Your welcome, now this thread wasn't supposed to be friendly so GOOD FUCKING LUCK FAGGOT!
>>60356553
>Microsoft Active Directory is actually really well done
leave microsoft shill
>>60356847
>pretending you have a job
>>60356872
>pretending you aren't a shill
i'd honestly rather get fucked up the ass by a trap than manage AD again
>>60356910
OP here, like I said: AD is ubiquitous for a reason
there is no better alternative for LDAP
>>60356999
yeah, it's ubiquitous because bill gates is a fucking kike.
>>60351007
I bought a Dell XPS15 and dual booted Ubuntu on it. Fite my normieness you cucks

>>60357025
