Too much (the hard drive alone was $1500 when I bought it). But I'm 35 years old and have no other expensive hobbies so why the fuck not. It's fun to shitpost at speeds that shouldn't even be possible.

Just spent about $100 on some Kingston 8gb sticks, wonder if I should've just bit the bullet and got something faster instead of cheap 1333mhz

Damn
>>
>>60338141
Yeah, I know right? Oh well, someone's gotta pay for R&D and it sure as shit aren't the people getting good deals. On the plus side the drive is fast as all fuck and at 2TB I don't need to put shit on the spinner.
>>
>>60338070
That looks suspiciously like a high end machine when you bought it but old as shit now.
>>
>>60338103
Better to have slower 16 GB than faster 8 GB IMO. 8 GB is low enough to easily hit swap and that's infinitely slower than slow ram.

Just got the new proc/mobo, haven't OC'd it beyond 4.6, need to adjust voltage. Temperature looks good so I'm optimistic 5ghz is possible.

oh is that a 7760k or whatever it is on the new 299 platform? or is that still a 7700k?
>>
>>60338390
7700k. I'm not great at OC'ing, any tips? Like... bump the voltage by .1 then step up the OC 100mhz until you see instability? Any good guides that are good for simpletons like me?

if i wanna do all the bomb ass shit you can expect from a top tier home desktop, like

-push 4k pixels 120+hz
-video edit
-gpu cuda machine learning
-stream high framerate & bitrate

what am i missing?

Samefag as >>60338062
If you live in the US, Mushkin Reactor are very good. Outside of the US, it depends. I have a Crucial MX300 and it's pretty good. While benches say it's shit relative to others, I'd have to say real-world differences are at 5 sec most vs other ssds. The 850 Evo is an M2 and it works like a charm.
>>
>>60338935
>push 4k pixels 120+hz

I think current technological limitations are 4k@60 though, no? A 1080Ti manages that just fine really.

R5 1600. Boot to a usable state in about 10 seconds. It's great if you can get it on sale, got it for ~$20 less than the MX300.

I'd probably go for a different 1070/RAM, but I like your choice anon
>>
>>60339150
1070 Zotac Mini is the cheapest 1070 where I am. It also has the fan stop for passive cooling when not under load and is small enough for no sag. I am very happy with it. RAM is Ripjaws V 3200.

Thanks!
>>
>>60339170
what's the highest temp you've seen on it? cheapest 1070 I can find is the Asus Turbo, so would probably go for G1 Gaming or the Strix
>>
>>60339203
I've pushed it to about 72C everything maxed on Total War Warhammer. That's the highest i've seen. I only run 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan. Even when the fans come on they are whisper quiet, can't really hear them over the case fans.
>>
>>60339170
>single fan cooler on downsized 1070
Dunno but that's asking for trouble.

>>60339203
The Strix isn't bad from what I saw. I got the MSI Armor 1080 and temps never go above 70c with my fan profile.

Hp 2540p. Nothing too crazy. Maxed RAM, replaced HDD with SSD. Used the ExpressCard slot to pop a USB.3.0 port.

Been working for me since 2011. I don't love it but, it has given me zero reason to replace it.
