I wouldn't say death since the linux kernel is widely used on servers and even *highly modified tho* on supercomputer, linux the kernel itself is highly flexible which the nt kernel isn't b/c its closed source. And the nt kernel wasnt really intended to run on supercomputer also since the linux kernel is so big individuals can take advantage of that and edit it inb4 for supercomputers for example ( btw correct me if im wrong, im still 14 and trying to learn about computer science, so im sorry in advanced )
>>

No I'm Linus Torvalds
>>

Literally who gives a shit. This just means Linux will get more software because It's more accessible to Windows users now.

You're still primarily using Windows 10.

Pretty neat, but the downside is that you still have to use all the crap that comes with using Windows, such as:
>"You need to restart your computer to apply this settings change. Restarting..."
>"Program successfully installed. You need to restart your computer to complete the installation. Restarting..."
>forced restart to apply updates
>can't use your computer while installing updates; have to sit there and stare at the screen as it installs them
>"we couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes..."
>"restarting..."
>can't refuse specific features in an update
>can't refuse updates at all, unless you disable them completely, but...
>have to disable critical security updates just to make the system usable
>but it will only be usable for a week because Windows has more holes than swiss cheese
>still need an anti-virus
>still need to defrag occasionally
>still need to reinstall Windows regularly due to windows rot (this is arguable, some people say that you won't get windows rot if you use you take precautions, but no such measure are required on other operating systems)
>BSOD- It is NEVER acceptable to let the entire operating system crash when a single application causes a problem, yet Windows allows it.
>can't change the Desktop UI without some broken hacky shit
>can't customize anything outside of what Microsoft "allows"; it's Microsoft's computer for as long as Windows is installed on it
>feature creep
>ads in file manager
>ads in settings UI
>NTFS (LOL)
>Registry (LOL)

A lot of these points are still problems for people that chose GNU/Linux over Windows, not to mention the increasingly creepy and invasive "features" they keep adding that turn the /g/ botnet meme/joke into a reality.

As of right now, this is still just taking Windows 10 and adding some Linux programs. It's not actually fixing any of the problems that GNU/Linux have with Windows. Until they fix some of those problems, it's not really "the best damn dev box" (fuck this trendy tech speak)

Than next time lie and say your 18.
>>
>>60331716
Oh well we still got a lot of underage people and people that started browsing under 18.

But let me explain the reason Linux will never die and Winfags are retarded.

Windows is an os that you can use on desktops and servers (and IoT however that's retarded). On desktop you know what it does, On servers it is enough for a lot of use cases for companies but when there are more specialised things that need to be done Windows simply doesn't have enough flexability. For supercomputers it isn't usefull at all since it can't scale for using that much resources which makes Linux the better option there.

The other thing that will make sure Linux will never die is low powered devices and IoT. Internet of things is made up of low power computers that won't have the power to run Windows. This includes things as routers, smartphones, watches, tv's and a lot more of devices.

Plus Linux is a lot more stable. Just let Winfags live in ignorance and embrace a truly great os.

Linux kernel panics don't happen nearly as often as Windows BSOD, and Linux usually provides the user with helpful error messages and decent logging so you can pinpoint what went wrong. Windows just gives you a sad face and tells you to google it, and if you're lucky it's a known issue covered by official Microsoft support, but most of the time it's not and you have to dig through pajeet forums.
>>

>>
>>60332405
sure, but that might have something to do with windows putting more stuff in their kernel than they should, so it has a larger surface for stuff going wrong.

when they panic/bsod they do it rather than trying to "guess" on how to continue, possibly risking corrupting stuff or data loss, to be on the safe side.

The greatest achievement of this is Microshit shooting itself in the leg. Hell, shooting itself in the head.

People will try this out, learn that it actually works and because the feature gets more popular, all the pop tech sites will start to post shit about linux, how there is no automatic updates or how you don't need to restart the sytem after updates and so forth.

People will come aware of what Linux is and many people will dump Windows now that there is more shit being developed for Linux. The best thing to happen to Linux is this.

If you need Adobe products or games just use GPU passthrough (unless you don't have a CPU with VT-d or AMD-V). I bet the M$ shills want to make it look hard as fuck, however I did it and I'll never fucking dual boot ever again.
>>
>>60333018
The only way for a program to do a kernel panic is not give it superuser permissions and make it kill some important system process like systemd(which will probably just restart). Which cannot be done unintentionally.

That or making a forkbomb that at some point manages to kill the CPU.

If things fail on linux they usually just restart.

There's been a way to circumvent that since they first did it. After the KVM and VFIO team started spoofing the vendor ID on the card NVIDIA haven't bothered to play the cat and mouse game ever again.

I guess they got scared and decided to say fuck it. So it works completely fine as long as you hide the KVM hypervisor and set the vendor_id to something other than NVIDIA. For example "FuckYou".

>>
>>60333178
the main point I was trying to make in my first post was that it is acceptable to cause kernel panics or bsods if it avoids data loss or corruptions resulting from the kernel (in windows or linux) "taking a guess" at what it was supposed to do, and running ahead with what values it has, likely at the risk of something going really wrong.

I do not know what phrasing to use instead, though.
>>
>>60333018
In the 15 years I've used linux, I've never had a kernel panic on an already installed system. Even when I've tried by unplugging the OS drive for shits and giggles it still wouldn't panic. I have had a panic on loading a liveUSB though but later found out it was a known issue with that build.

You can use the internal graphics and a dedicated graphics card if you have that. if you don't then yes, you'll need a cheapo secondary card.

As for the USB stuff, nah. You can use Synergy. It's free and it works perfectly fine for all games (as long as you lock the cursor to the screen). I've never had any problems with it whatsoever.

Unless you're confusing marketing and shilling.

Shilling is a practice where someone, seemingly unaffiliated, spruiks a product or service or otherwise impedes a clean sale (say in an Auction)

Marketing on the otherhand is overtly trying to get you buy something - this is what MS does, it takes the decisionmakers in business out for expensive luncheons and dinners, it gives kickbacks and gifts to win over those people, so they sign for another 3 years of Software Assurance.

They don't need to shill, at least not to the corporate world.

So?
None of them are going to install Ubuntu on Windows either, since they have no reason to use it and it'd just introduce vectors for attack.

If a user in an MS shop needs Linux for something they're either:
A. Already running it and are an edge case for IT
B. Running it in a VM, where it's going to stay.

There is no reason for any corporate user to be using this.
There is no reason for any home user to be using this.
This isn't going to sway any Linux user to come back abord the MS train
It's also isn't going to sway any Windows users to abandon any plans they might have had to move to Linux (if they had any) to use this subsystem instead.

So, I'll reiterate, Linux is not kill at all.

It's great if you want Linux but with ads and spyware and a whole other operating system as bloat.

Anyone who actually likes this is a literal cuckold who will no doubt make excuses to let Microsoft fuck their OS.

This might actually be a good thing for Linux though, Seeing as Windows is already at 90% market share and Linux is less than 2%, Linux has no where to go but up and Windows has no where to go but down. By allowing Windows users to easily test-drive Linux they're going to drive people to the better OS. It's highly unlikely they're going to steal back people who have already abandoned microsoft cuckware.

Everyone in this thread is stupid.
The only real reason that you'd want to run Linux like this is if you are a programmer who is forced to use windows for work but, needs some functionality that it does not provide.

Now you can more easily do things like compile from source, use git or test multiplatform programs in windows.

All the benefits of using Linux from the perspective of a system administrator, most programmers and desktop users are lost here. All of the added security and stability is lost along with a sizable chunk of performance.

This actually a pretty cool development for Linux because, it will draw more developer interest and public attention as well as offer a way for noobs to become acquainted with Linux without "ruining" mummy's netbook.

But, winders shills who don't understand why people use Linux will as always misunderstand.
