Redpill me on ruby

It's simple to read and write, and has a large community behind it. It's a beautiful language honestly, that's why I have high hopes for crystal.
The downsides are performance basically, you can get around that slightly with jruby but for web other languages seem to better handle concurrency.
how do you trust it to get plurals right
>>60327571
it's useless
>slow (interpreted)
>runtime errors (dynamically typed)
>only used for rails
No thanks
>>60327571
webshit.
Don't bother learning that pos, just pay a retard to do your job if you really need it.
>>60327571
its a dynamic language, and like every dynamic language ever made its utter shit.
pretty cool interpreted language (still worse than python tho) that no one will use in a couple years when ruby on raills will completly die out
>>60327571
go with python if you want to learn a scripting language fampai
>>60327689
That's Rails.
I use all kinds of languages at work. Python, Ruby, Go, Java, other DSLs like Puppet and Chef.
Ruby is my favorite scripting language. Performance is rarely a concern. Ruby is so comfy.
Rails is great when building a decent CRUD web app too. I also use Sinatra and Flask, but again for a CRUD app Rails is great. Sinatra is great for simple web services.
>>60327571
Ruby would have been a better language in Python's place. It's a pity Python won.

She knows some stuff about operating systems development and computer architecture.
>>60327571
It's Python by people who are better at designing dynamic scripting language.

That's not Ruby
I picked Ruby up a few weeks ago. I used to swear by C-like syntax and was a bit unsure if I'd like it at first.
But a few minutes into my first script I realized I actually fucking hate braces.
I hope crystal turns out to be a hit.

Ok I looked up crystal and it looks pretty awesome. I hope it gets enough traction that I could use it for systems services at work.
It's like python except with better language constructs and isn't reliant on whitespace.
Cons include:
- no JIT in the standard version (though there is jruby etc),
- generally poor windows support.
