Don't get me wrong, I live messengers and irc. Just as of late it feel like the safest way to pass information has been physically with say a flash drive or by mouth even depending on what it is.
Its just if half the shit the gop is saying about their abilities to track and breach, is there really a secure way to send content over the net anymore?
>>
>>60326905
I can reasonably safely say that stuff like PGP isn't broken, so that's always an option (make sure to be weary of metadata though)
Physically sharing with a flashdrive doesn't really help unless you can be 100% sure your devices haven't been compromised, see: airgapping
>>
>>60326936
okay cool, good to know about PGP.

I already know about airgapping. I guess what I mean is by not sending it online there is much less of an issue. Cause if its to the point you are worried about physical transfers, I'd say you've already been caught.

If someone would just make a cross-platform electron app that used the Matrix protocol for e2e encrypted 1:1 chats and group chats we'd be in a whole new era of cryptography. How hard could this be?

>Wear a different mask every time I go out
>Wear dazzle camo makeup under mask in case it needs to be removed
>Purchase phone service under a pseudonym
>Connect phone to a nonlogging VPN and then to TOR
>Run Replicant with no gapps/proprietary software apart from necessary driver blobs (I figure I'm safer with the number of eyes on the AOSP/LOS/Replicant code than some obscure feature phone OS)
>Physically disable cameras, microphone, and Bluetooth
>Communicate through encrypted text message/email
>Pay with cash or buttcoin when possible
>Ride motorcycle with "accidentally" obscured plates (fewer cops will care compared to a car with obscured plates)
What did I miss? Is there a way to get a credit or debit card that isn't attached to an SSN? Is there a way to avoid facial recognition that's more compatible with physical anonymity?

What is left now that grsecurity won't be accesible to the general public? OpenBSD?

In which case /cyb/ will appear once again. In theory /cyb/ and /sec/ should be a good match yet when you look at the actual discussions here there is little connect between these topics.

Personally I have an interest in electronic warfare (EW) and tried to fire up a discussion about that a few rounds ago but that went essentially nowhere. There is some conflict and some synergy between EW and /sec/ and would be /cyb/ since it relies more on finesse than brute force but it seems perhaps too left field here.
>>
>>60333175
I would be quite interested in that, maybe you could make a thread on lainchan.jp/cyb/ about it? People might be more interested there, I sure am.

Yeah, when it was at about 700 it had the nice small website, genuinely weird vibe going on. Now they've made it blatantly obvious that it's an ARG, what with all the changing of the usercap, and suggesting moving the date around and shit.

They also changed the wording around to make it not a suicide cult anymore. They "clarified" that the July 1st date was simply a registration date, not a migration deadline as was originally heavily implied.

I'm pretty disappointed honestly, now all that's left in the inevitable ARG regression is for the guy to break character once it hits enough users to sustain itself.

How could have that possibly have been avoided? You're basically asking them to freeze time.

>They also changed the wording around to make it not a suicide cult anymore. They "clarified" that the July 1st date was simply a registration date, not a migration deadline as was originally heavily implied.
Isn't that the responsible thing to do? Websites like that can really fuck with people with pre-existing mental illness like schizophrenia. I'm sure someone with severe psychosis already killed themselves.

>I'm pretty disappointed honestly, now all that's left in the inevitable ARG regression is for the guy to break character once it hits enough users to sustain itself.
We pretty much knew that they wanted to evolve towards an actual long-term community when they affiliated with lainchan.jp. You don't take the time to affiliate with another website a month before you kill yourself.

Not him but picking a date that isn't so close would do it.

>I'm sure someone with severe psychosis already killed themselves.
One of the clauses is you don't get to see Lain if you die before the set date.

The site is having an identity crisis, the people there thinking they had an inner circle suicide club are upset that it's expanding. And it doesn't seem to be very cyberpunk outside of the aesthetics.

The Discord is a pretty big deal, and any cyberpunk community that uses Discord officially is well, not cyberpunk. It's a proprietary chat program for video games.

>>
>>60335569
I don't think the site is bad for what it's doing, it tried to do something really neat it's just having trouble making that transition from ironic cyberpunk suicide club to lainchan-esque community. The purpose of the site is being lost in the process, it's not a suicide cult and it's not a hardcore cyberpunk community. So who is it for?

The userbase doesn't know, they're all worried about "normies" ruining their secret club and begging for the registrations to close. But they aren't meant to close.
>>
>>60335589

merging /cyb/ and /sec/ had its ups and downs. the ups are are more active thread, more people talking and contributing to conversation. but the downs are /cyb/ does drown out /sec/ and most people that come from /cyb/ to /sec/ are new. what i mean by this is many people from /cyb/ do not know how to use ssh or irc. these are just two examples but think about if they do not know how to use either of those and can not take the time to look up how to use them then they should not be learning how to into /sec/. anyone in /sec/ will tell you that it is critical to understand that system you are going to exploit and your tools before you can do anything

this has nothing to do with culture or the free flow of information. if someone does not have the common sense to look up something they do not know before asking for help then they have no place trying to learn security. security in general requires an immese amount of self study. how am i being manipulated if i do not go to irc.

A plain CD-ROM or DVD is safer.

Hey guys I got a PRETTY nasty computer virus/malware.
I asked before on how to deal with it but NOTHING worked. What happens is randomly something on the screen like a captcha or a link or someone post will automatically copy and paste when I go to click on something.

I used 2 different mouses, two different OS (Winblows 7 and 10), I used MalwareBytes to scan my computer, I used Kaspersky to scan my computer, I disabled clipboard with firefox and I used two different keyboards.

I'm completely out matched by this fucking thing, should I just nuke my HDD and start over?

Would it be possible for my videos and pictures to be infected? I have some pictures of family members who passed away I'd rather not have lost.

I also asked StupidQuestions thread but they had no idea on what to do.
>>
>>60343256
Did you try another browser? Upload a picture on some upload site like pomf.cat, not on 4chan, and I'll take a look at it to see if it's infected.

I don't know whether it's /cyb/ or not but vapers are usually retardedly cancerous people.

It did it with the original firefox, now I'm using waterfox and it's still doing it. I don't see it happening on google chrome but then again I don't want to use google chrome to browse 4chan because I don't clean the cookies/cache on it. This all started when I downloaded a torrent for photoshop.

And I thank you for any help.
>>
>>60343441
The picture seems to be ok. As I thought the issue is with the browser. If I had physical access to the computer I might be able to fix it, but imo your best option is to save all the important stuff and wipe.
>>
>>60343551
Is there a browser besides firefox ones you would recommend? Something with security and functionality?
>>
>>60343256
First off if you have the install media required for the windows OS ypu want then this should be kinda painless.
My best suggestion is a total wipe. On a different computer (is available) download Ubuntu(you could use another gnu/linux based os, but I say Ubuntu because its easier to find what we will need.) and install it to a live disk or flashdrive. Turn off you main PC and boot into Ubuntu.
Now at this point if you want you can back up IMPORTANT files. If you can stand to lose memes, games and porn then do it. Only save what you feel is worth backing up incase the virus has infected random files, and try any not bulk move entire directories to back up for the same reason. Its painful, bust save as litrke as you can and move the files in small groupings making sure you knowbwhat you grab.
After you do that, there are tones of how to videos and articles on how to do this, just look up "remove a virus with Ubuntu" the newer the video the better obviously, but it might take a little searching.
Follow one of these and then reboot.
If all is fixed and you don't get the issue anymore, then great! Otherwise, boot back into Ubuntu and whipe the harddrives of your computer using GParted. Then re-install your desired OS.

Hope this helps anon.

I don't think some anons understand how it works. Because yes, you have to be willing to learn by yourself, but another guy in this thread was bragging too much about learning somewhere else, not even sharing was allowed for what he said.

I say the first thing we should teach new guys is that having an attitude to life of curiosity and determination is an important part. Covering that, is not bad making a guides on stuff like ssh or IRC, I made one myself.

Maybe we can put a notice in the OP for whoever wants to be part of either hacker culture or cyberpunk to understand about self determination. I have a few links about that:

If the virus messed with Ubuntu after a wipe and install you have bigger problems lol. But I doubt that would happen.
You can install it from the infected computer but there may be complications. Some viruses disabled some system abilities, so you may not be able to make the live disk/drive.

That doesn't mean you didn't do wrong. I don't think you understand that spoonfeeding is what makes people not prosper. Learn for yourself or gtfo (helping != spoonfeeding), we already give enough resources for everything. I really doubt that we want to breed pajeets instead of exploit-producing machines.

Also why doesn't OP use the /sec/ pastebin which contains far more resources? https://pastebin.com/UY7RxEqp

This one is fine though, so keep it.

I disagree, Raymond put some valuable effort on proper attitude.

>I don't think you understand that spoonfeeding is what makes people not prosper.
Lets avoid being vague and call everything spoonfeeding and we'll be fine.

>Also why doesn't OP use the /sec/ pastebin which contains far more resources? https://pastebin.com/UY7RxEqp
I agree, is quite the master pastebin there.
>>
>>60344490
no one was bragging about learning from anywhere else and no one said anything about not sharing. you do realize that by spoon feeding someone a guide on how to do something is killing any insentive to be curious or want to learn on their own. i agree fostering those things are critical but in the end it relies on the person.
>>
>>60345154
>I disagree, Raymond put some valuable effort on proper attitude.
Wrong definition of hacker, not the definition that /sec/ uses..

>Lets avoid being vague and call everything spoonfeeding and we'll be fine.
Shit, how is https://pastebin.com/WFkuY5pk not spoonfeeding, please tell me. And specially on something so essential and basic like IRC, you should've just done something like IRC tips, where you state that accounts, vHosts, znc and SSL exist, and elaborate on what everything is and maybe vaguely how to set up SSL for client and znc.

There you're just filling the spoon with information and pushing it so hard in the reader's mouth that their IQ is decreased by 20 units.
>>
>>60345165
Sometimes calling spoonfeeding to something actually kills the discussion, and curious minds thrive on good explanations.

Not defending lazies here, those are evident. But talking about the new guys, when new find something cool and understandable they no longer fear is unreachable.

Of course I am interested in making hard things more simple too, too much information we are diving and is sometimes we need to save time to each other.
>>
>>60345332
spoonfeeding surfices as an explantion. as for new people we only stand to hurt them by spoonfeeding
>>
>>60345309
>Wrong definition of hacker, not the definition that /sec/ uses..
I see, but that doesn't make it less true. Maybe a warning about this issue is on point.

>you should've just done something like IRC tips, where you state that accounts, vHosts, znc and SSL exist, and elaborate on what everything is and maybe vaguely how to set up SSL for client and znc.
There is wikipedia for that, and even then it doesn't work well as a guide. Maybe you are thinking too much in terms of your own circle anon, not everybody spent time. Your allegations of IQ decreasing is just plain bias.
>>
>>60345405
Again with the spoonfeeding. For you maybe is, but for someone else is a proper explanation.
>>
>>60345409
>even then it doesn't work well as a guide
The wikipedians very much do NOT want Wikipedia to be a useful guide. That is one of the best ways of having your articles instantly wiped out.

I am increasingly using pastebin.com for snippets of information. However it is not really geared for knowledge management hey way Google Knol was intended to.
https://knol.google.com/
https://knol.google.com/faq.html

Wikipedia as a Web 2.0 case was b0rken from day one since it is centralised. A federated and distributed model would be far more in line with the Web 2.0 thinking and /cyb/ for that matter.

If I had the time I'd like to build something like that. Wrestling power away from the mad bats of Wikipedia would feel good. So go ahead and work this idea if you wish.

Another Vault 7 release

https://wikileaks.org/vault7/#AfterMidnight

AfterMidnight
12 May, 2017
Today, May 12th 2017, WikiLeaks publishes "AfterMidnight" and "Assassin", two CIA malware frameworks for the Microsoft Windows platform.

"AfterMidnight" allows operators to dynamically load and execute malware payloads on a target machine. The main controller disguises as a self-persisting Windows Service DLL and provides secure execution of "Gremlins" via a HTTPS based Listening Post (LP) system called "Octopus". Once installed on a target machine AM will call back to a configured LP on a configurable schedule, checking to see if there is a new plan for it to execute. If there is, it downloads and stores all needed components before loading all new gremlins in memory. "Gremlins" are small AM payloads that are meant to run hidden on the target and either subvert the functionality of targeted software, survey the target (including data exfiltration) or provide internal services for other gremlins. The special payload "AlphaGremlin" even has a custom script language which allows operators to schedule custom tasks to be executed on the target machine.

"Assassin" is a similar kind of malware; it is an automated implant that provides a simple collection platform on remote computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system. Once the tool is installed on the target, the implant is run within a Windows service process. "Assassin" (just like "AfterMidnight") will then periodically beacon to its configured listening post(s) to request tasking and deliver results. Communication occurs over one or more transport protocols as configured before or during deployment. The "Assassin" C2 (Command and Control) and LP (Listening Post) subsystems are referred to collectively as" The Gibson" and allow operators to perform specific tasks on an infected target..
