Yes, get an SSD. The Mushkin Reactor series (if you're in the US) is one of the best value SSD's out there. The Crucial MX300 is not bad though when full, gets pretty sluggish compared to the competition. Still not a bad value ssd and far better than HDD's.

Use clone software and make a windows rescue disk.

It wont boot because all cloning software sucks so you use the bootrec commands to fix your bootfiles.

Thats how I did it on 2 drives.

I've been able to boot windows on a cloned hdd using macrium reflect with zero issues.
