For fuck's sake, I must be getting old because all of a sudden I just see this everywhere and had to look up what it was. It's like when everyone was talking about Snapchat and I had no idea what the fuck it was, either.

What is this device and what is its function. Are they new speakers or a drone? I can't tell

It's literally just a toy that spins Normies got their hands on them and it's some new fad or some shit.

It's exactly what it sounds like. Since everyone under the age of 30 has ADHD, these things exist to keep them at bay. Sort of like a stress squeeze thing, but more faggy and memey so a bunch of 14 year old fuccbois with miley cyrus haircuts and $900 phones post about them on snapchat or whatever the fuck.
>>
Just today received mine and like always decided to clean it in water like everything. I guess the water damaged bearing because now it barely spins. Will order new one

It's a little doohickey that spins. It's literally marketed as an autism therapy but normies are using them now, too, for some reason.

I hear some people use them to concentrate, but desu people who need a fucking toy to concentrate should be physically removed

It's weirding me out that I bought one at a swap meet literally the day before they blew up everywhere. Like the day before. And now all of a suddon it's a cultural phenomenon fad being pushed out the ass by skaters.

I had my first spinner a year ago when I saw a 3d model on maker bot's website. I made it and accidentally dropped it off a bridge. Must've contaminated the water supply, because now my autism is spreading around the world and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
>>
>>60318826
Don't worry, it's just massively shilled because people want to make bank on it. It's easiest money ever basically, you just buy those off taobao in bulk for peanuts and sell to retarded normies with several hundred percent markup.

could someone kindly explain the bearings(?) on the outer edge. Are they free-floating or locked? Are they just weights that resemble bearings? I've highlighted the area in question in pic. Thank You

Caged roller ball bearing. The barrier is plastic and not secured but friction keeps it from moving.
>>
>>60321491
>>60321579
And besides, generations are usually actually determined after the fact, like once a new birth wave happens. Gen Z is not a new birth wave, just teens who hear people complain about Millinials and think they're different.

>>
"The origins of the spinner trace back to what its inventor, Catherine A. Hettinger["

"Hettinger filed an application to patent her spinner on May 28, 1993,[16] before flying up to Washington, D.C. to secure her patent in 1997.[6][16] The toy manufacturing company Hasbro tested the design but decided not to proceed with production, and after not being able to afford the $400 renewal fee for her patent, Hettinger surrendered the patent in 2005.[6] Many manufacturers later began creating spinners in different shapes and designs.[6] Hettinger made no money from the sale of this product.[17]"

Learning is interesting - and sickening.

So after doing a bit of research it looks like these sell for $10 bucks on Amazon with the "premium" ones going for a little over $20.
I think I can source cheapo bearings for around $.75 so I'll need four of those, plastic cost at $.50, a dollar for packaging, and labor cost of around $1.50 per unit. I'd be looking at needing to move 2,222 units to recoup my investment at $10 or 690 units at $20.
I'd probably end up pricing somewhere in between there but could I sell that many? It'll take me at least a month to get all the equipment put together and get a product out. I'm just afraid by then I'll have missed the train entirely.

Muh /diy/ senses are tingling I'm seriously considering making these. Talk me out of this or tell me what I should add to make my product stand out. It'll be injection molded and the whole shebang too so it's not like I'll be chunking these out of a 3d printer and I'm also fully capable of making crisp printed boxes.
>>
>>60337905
Look at the quantity of the $20 ones sell vs the cheap $10 or below ones sell. $20 seems a lot and you can get a much more interesting gyro >>60323129 for that much.
>>
>>60337905
you can get 608 bearings for 22-25c on aliexpress at 10 qty. one trick the chinks are using is to use a smaller r188 bearing for the center, it actually spins better because it's smaller.

and yes you already missed the train, chinks are shitting these out by the boatload for prices you can't match if you build them yourself. you could probably make some $$$ by just reselling though. prices on amazon are high as usual.
>>
>>60337982
I can't make a gyro though. I mean I probably could but it would be new ground for me. I've done plastic injection molding but never die cast aluminum.

>>60338013
I had listed figured in all the manufacturing prices though if I can sell these for $10 I can turn a profit after 2000 unit sales. Less than that even if I do what >>60337982 said. It'll just be in 4 weeks and if I don't sell that many I'll be in the hole.

I dunno the more I look at it the more ideas I get. It'd be neat to make these link together and have it do four bar linkages as well.

Wasn't suggesting you make a gyro. Spinners are already out there and you'll have to find a way to penetrate the market, like make them more interesting or sell them dirt cheap. Gyros require more attention to operate and hence not really "fidget" toys.

You could try and be like apple and make it really fancy looking with expensive packaging. Over-design it essentially.

Like put a carabiner on it? I suppose it would make it more convenient to carry around if you could put it on a keychain but it'd need a way to clip off simply. I mean unless a spinny keychain toy would sell too.

Putting a plastic clip on the corner like pic related wouldn't be to hard at all though. I could even incorporate it into the celtic knot shape.
