Explain this to me, /g/.
The second partition of my hard disk randomly gains more free space sometimes. A few days ago it had exactly 10 GB of free space, and now it has 12. I don't remember deleting or uninstalling anything from the drive recently. However, this has happened before a couple times.
Not complaining, since acquiring an extra gigabyte or two of extra space is always good, especially concerning my old poorfag laptop, but I'm worried about data loss.
Can anyone explain what the possible reasons for this happening are?
cache, pagefile etc.

Could be a number of things.
Off the top of my head check the following:
Pagefile.sys, Hyberfil.sys
Run Malwarebytes.
A software has a logging feature turned on and somewhere on your HDD is a TXT file that's multiple GBs in size, hunt that shit down with DirDiskStat and find the program responsible and get rid of it or turn off logging if possible.

*DirDiskStat
Also run CCleaner.

**WinDirStat
Nigger keyboard.

Maintainance runs unless you disable the task. It runs the Disk cleanup utiliy and removes restore points and shadow copies of files. It's common for all this to free even more than 1GB
