Can we have a printer thread?
My old printer (HP F300) cartridges cost more than new printer now.
What is the standard now? ink? laser?
What brand to go to? HP? Brother? Canon?

If you need color, Epson inkjet. If you don't, Brother laser
Make sure to get an SMB model for less shitty drivers and not getting assraped for ink/toner
>>60312093
Ink is a scam.
Buy a laser printer.
Any will do as long as there are 3rd party cartridges available
You could also pick up a second hand printer from an office for free, they throw out loads and it's a pain to get someone to dispose of them.

Daily remember that laser printers are the option to go for 80% of the people.
>brother laser
>not hp laser
good luck finding replacement parts.

Fuck epson so fucking hard. Their printers will detect their own cartridges are fakes, the cartridges will go bad randomly, and you'll constantly be doing cleanings that use up all the fucking ink.
After so much trouble with hp and epson and nearly a divorce, I spent $400 on a canon pro-100 and I haven't had a single issue with it. It's huge, slow, and the ink isn't cheap, but god damn it works every time and the photo print quality is tits.
If you don't need to print photos get a brother laser printer, color or b&w.

Hp laser printers are absolute shit now until you get into the >$1000 range.

what?

I have a HP color laser (with toners from KMP)
Works fine for me.

>absolute shit now
It's like with ThinkPads. You go for the older models because they're better than new ones. Plus, LaserJets usually can print 100k pages before the fuser needs a replacement.

When will this meme finally die?

Steal a Brother Laser printer from work, or if you're a loser you can buy one for like €60
Laser is the way to go if you're not printing in colour.

>You go for the older models because they're better than new ones
What about ink/toner?
>>60312093
2015 here.
But a 3D printer.
That way you can print your own laser/inkjet printer and your own toner/ink.
What are GNU/Linux compatible printers that doesn't require you to fiddle with CUPS?
What about Canon i-SENSYS MF229DW?
I have two HP inkjet, and I'm thinking I should get into laserjet.
>200$
>Feeder
>Duplex
>3in1
>WiFi
>Cheap toner
The only down side is that Linux support printing only.
>>60312093
I just use a Samsung ML-1660 laser.
It doesn't have real PCL or PS or anything like that but, but it works perfectly on CUPS anyway.
Toner is like $18 a cart for generic shit.
Works fine, has done for ~6 years now.

Anything really?
I've not seen a problematic printer in a long time.
I think the better thing to research would be bad printers, since most everything is 'good' (or rather, well behaved) now.
>>60313096
I bought a Brother all-in-one laser printer last year.
Had to do a lot of fucking around in CUPS to get everything to work.
>>60313096
Just because it works doesn't mean it's good.
My current printer while it "works" on linux, it doesn't allow for advance options, and the printing speeds are so slow, that booting into windows the printing from it is faster.
>not buying all-in-one printer
Why would anyone do that?
>>60312946
>WiFi
Not all WiFi models support printing.
>2017
>using paper
>buy HP 6L back in 1998
>Still work and tonners are elementary school tier to refill, works on any OS.
Only downside is the LPT port, not for itself but rather than now i depend on a PCI/e card as LPTtoUSB cables are shit and most motherboards don't even come with a LPT header anymore.

>My old printer (HP F300) cartridges cost more than new printer now.
Why not just refill it then?

Grab an old hp print server. It's a small box with an ieee1284 and a network port. You set an ip on the box and print to port 9100.
