An SE is basically a cheaper 6S with better battery life, but a few missing relatively unimportant features. So, generally, it's a better product for average users. If you need a bigger screen for visibility reasons, the 6S is better. You can have the 128GB model straight from Apple for $500, and for significantly less than that elsewhere. It's going to be supported for a rather long time, so you're safe there. Beyond that, it's a phone. All phones are terrible stand-ins for point and shoot cameras, all phones make terrible replacements for Windows/Linux notebooks, all phones have shitty battery life if you actually need to use them for things other than calling (buy a travel battery), etc. You don't need OLED, you don't need the fastest SoC, you don't the latest "features" (smartphones haven't meaningfully evolved in quite awhile).
Android is about on par with iOS nowadays, but Android from third-parties is generally terrible and unreliably updated. Nexus and Pixel are your only serious options, and the Nexus program is being killed, so it'll soon just be Pixel. That's really all there is to say on phones. Most Apple/Android enthusiasts are shills who jerk off to specs that don't matter, and you should ignore them.

Depends, do you want your screen size and resolution to be straight out of 2012 or 2010?
