Hello, I'm new to this whole board and programming in general aside from dabbling with Java for bit. I've wanted to learn C for a while since everyone I know says its a good base to learn everything from. Could someone give me a good compiler?

Depends on how you define better. Just go with whatever dude, you're just starting. You won't need to worry about compiler specific pros/cons until you know the language pretty well.

VS is a bloated pile of shit. Just use vim + gcc and you'll be okay.

Windows------->Visual studio

Linux----------> Codeblocks Vim nano Emacs etc.

I recommend unix on a VM since you can go to CLI and type "man [syscall]" for documentation.
It is kinda handy. On windows you want to go to MSDN and since visual studio is heavy and so are browsers an older machine is going to have a hard time. Best of luck anon.
