Filesystem is not copy on write so data can very easily be destroyed when you shut down while system files are swapping out.

So I bought a new notebook with win 10 and it downloaded and installed 4 gb of updates. Now I'm finally in windows, I click on "checking for updates" just to make sure and it now downloads more updates for build 1607? Wtf is going on here? Why isn't it patched to creators edition after the 4 gb of pre-boot updates? How many more updates do I have to expect to install here?

It's still doing this. Literally hours of potentially efficient programming time gone because Windows forces some shit I don't want on my computer. Without even asking for a better time to do so, four hours from now would have been just fine.

I hope Microsoft burns in hell. I'd love to get rid of Windows but I need some programs for work and uni. Nothing triggers me as much as all the shit Microsoft's been pulling off for the last few years.

What you can do is run Windows in a VM with KVM.

I use GPU passthrough and you can strap applications on to steam to in home stream them from the VM.
You get to have your applications run with full control over the medium and the more efficient disk usage and compression of linux.

Sadly, you can brick an install by restarting during configuration, so there may not be much to salvage. I host my KVM on a copy on write filesystem so that I may freely hard shutdown and revert to snapshots when it thinks it knows better than me.

They work as they would natively.
You just no longer need to restart your machine to run them alongside linux.

The trick here is to realize in home streaming is good for more than just vidya.
Add anything to a steam library that you have preinstalled and you can stream it.

Visual studio and .NET will work just fine and I highly recommend QXL drivers. You won't have 3D acceleration but I used it for the weird IDEs my uni would use for programming classes.

This, I had one class, ONE FUCKING CLASS that we needed Visual Studio for. It was for one shitty assignment, and we basically had to get a screenshot of visual studio running assembly code that we wrote. The whole time I was thinking, is there no way to write assembly code in Linux and run it in an IDE on here instead?
