I'm using 8.1 since ever. I directly skipped Windows 7 using Vista 32 bit until 2013.

7 is starting to age, 8.1 is currently perfect. I hope it will last long. I won't install a shit OS on my computer.

Avoided Windows like the plague after they released Vista (switched to LiGNUX and OS X, then eventually dropped OS X and went full LiGNUx). Installed Win 7 on my main laptop's secondary drive last year for work purposes and have been digging it. Great support for my graphics card, and all I had to do to make it tolerable GUI-wise was slap on a squared aero theme (seven squared) and disable some unneeded desktop / composition effects. After that it was just a matter of installing the software I like, and using HostsMan + the AntiBeacon list as a supplement to a few other hosts files. Good stuff, pic related.

i've been periodically making small changes to altdrag and optimizing the codebase (mostly to work better on skylake machines, but i'm trying to keep it running smoothly on other architectures while doing so). it's an easy project to work with, and i'll put all my changes up on github when the kinks are ironed out. i figure that if something's running in the background all the time, and i use it very frequently, it might as well work as efficiently as possible.

I had been using some original build of Windows 7 with Daz Loader for years, and I noticed that various things were getting laggy and shitty over time. For example, Firefox got to the point where having too many tabs open would result in 2+ GB of RAM being used and it eventually crashing with a couple Youtube tabs. Also, MPC-HC was ALWAYS juttery, even from day one. I'd just assumed that it couldn't get any better.

I recently installed Windows 8.1 and it's a major improvement. MPC-HC playback is now much smoother, and Firefox so far has only a minimal memory footprint no matter how many tabs I have open. The only real issue is getting used to the newer, shittier start menu and the fact that 80% of my programs are outside of Windows' built in alphabetized list. Why the fuck are programs not automatically alphabetized?

I actually tried reinstalling W7, reinstalling my graphics card and trying all sorts of different codecs several times to fix the MPC-HC jutter, but it was always shit. Probably had something to do with my graphics card, but who knows. Firefox has historically ALWAYS gone to shit after about a year of use on any W7 build, no matter if I'm keeping the system updated automatically or if I freeze all updates. It is such a shitty program.

My money is on it being a driver issue. Changing to other video players didn't ever give me a very good result either. And I did try quite a few different drivers before giving up on it in Windows 7. There just aren't any.
