Get in here, shit's gonna go down! Google just found a MASSIVE RCE hole in Windows! Like every time, details will leak and it will end up being exploited in the real world before it's fixed.

IT'S FUCKING HAPPENING! WINPOCALYPSE IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!

Move to Linux/macos ASAP!

Almost all of these require physical access in some way.

The number of "EXTREME WORLD ENDING SECURITY FAULT DISCOVERED!" that turns out to begin with a fucking USB stick in the target machine are uncountable at this point.

What that means is that when legitimate problems rather than enthusiast problems are found they are washed away in the tide and don't get the exposure they need.

>If they're so good at catching vulnerabilities, then why can't they just stop writing shitty software that has all those vulnerabilities in the first place?

Because writing secure code is hard. Sometimes things will interface in unexpected ways that aren't caught initially.

>Neither Mac nor Linux have nearly as many problems in that regard. It's not even close.

lmao are you serious? Check the CVE's list. The only reason MacOS isn't getting their asshole gaped by a stallion dick is marketshare.

And there are vulnerabilities in Linux all the time, hell, a few weeks ago there was vuln that allowed you to pop a box by sending a malformed UDP packet. And there have been tons of historically stupid vulnerabilities within both those operating systems.

The point is that there will always be vulnerabilities. And Windows is the operating system with the most marketshare in the world. Therefore, it's going to be attacked more often.

There's no problem with having a thread discussing the vulnerability, but when it devolves into the "My operating system is better than your operating system" bullshit, it's just retarded.

Windows is the most secure operating system ever created - millions of attempts to find holes in it have been made and all those holes have been plugged. The other operating systems are relying on the fact that so far no one has made much of an effort to find security holes in the system and so most of them are still there undiscovered and therefore not yet exploited.

Yes Windows is the best operating system. Apple has been very successful and very impressive as of late but I think Windows is still years ahead of it's competition. It has been available much longer and has a bigger base in terms of technology and company compared to apple or other operating systems

I mean lets get real for a moment. You install windows 10 in about 45 minutes and for most linuxes its about the same but remember. Biggest base linuxes are about 1 gigabytes or 2 while windows 10 can be more than 5 gigabytes of data. And what happens when you open them. On linux there are about 2 functional buttons, 3 are nonfunctional and in those two buttons there are some pictures to play with. Maybe slide down or up. On windows though, you feel like a god. Its professional its fast, its all functional. You have a godlike user interface. The thing that linux does not have. You have those two buttons in linux, but you still search google for codes to write in terminal. Linux is free because its not worth a penny. Nobody would sell a paper without taking the money. Just not sure why people still buy android while windows phone does 10 times more. Trust me. When you work with windows you know some genius ground breaker dedicated himself to give you an operational os

Yep, basically it was around 04-05 when Windows got hit with a series of really destructive exploits (slammer, nimda, code red..etc..). Either they fixd their shit, or they were going to lose a lot of money.

Linus doesn't seem to have that same motivation. Not to mention he's a egotistical faggot, he doesn't take kernel sec seriously.
>>
If one makes the presumption that the modern IT is all about the internet, then you have to ask yourself
'Does Linux even have a choice in this matter ?'

A modern computing system is not one that is run from the command line - it is a system that is tied in with the internet Cloud. Just have a look at Windows 10 with Cortana and OneDrive for an example of this done right.

You need the outlook to connect in with the mass of email flowing around us every day. And then there is document collaboration - the sharing of Wordfiles and Excels between users across state boundries ! Voice over IP, cloud enabled 'Surface' computing, and voice command interfaces - all tied together with .NET and the OneDrive.

The driving force behind this internet is the Microsoft Sharepoint Server - a central peice of systems software which connects all these end points together, in a synergistic kaleidoscope that achieves both balance and symmetry.

The smart Vendors know that in order to get ahead in the future IT, that means integrating with the Cloud.

Linux has nothing on the Cloud.

The cloud is a disaster waiting to happen. It's literally putting all your eggs in one basket. Anyone who can break in, can get literally EVERYTHING. Linux is a Finnish student's clone of an operating system kernel originally designed for switching telephone networks. It was supplemented by the GNU utilities, written by a mountain troll in Massachusetts, as an alternative to the non-free UNIX operating system. GNU/Linux has been traditionally used in server applications where it would be accessed primarily via a text terminal, but more recently some fans in South America developed a desktop environment for it called GNOME.

Windows NT is a workstation operating system developed in the nineties by professional engineers at Microsoft (and IBM too, before the split) for large scale corporate deployments.

If you need a small operating system for embedded applications, you should use Linux. Otherwise, Windows is the better choice.

Rewrite it in Rust, then. Considering how hard it is to write complex programs in C in the first place, it's quite obvious that they would have used another language if there was one that was actually suitable for the task.

No, it was designed for operating system research and software development. It's also the basis of the greatest effort of operating system standardization in history.

>Windows NT is a workstation operating system developed in the nineties by professional engineers at Microsoft (and IBM too, before the split) for large scale corporate deployments.
NT has some good ideas, but the whole Windows ecosystem is basically a historical accident. Even MS-DOS borrowed ideas from Unix, and Microsoft planned all along to have a Unix as their flagship product. It only changed when they dropped out of the Unix business because they were unable to handle the competition, and decided to put everything into Windows. Which again, started out with some good ideas, but failed to maintain a tradition of innovation and is now reduced to reinventing Unix, poorly.

It's kind of meaningless because we don't interface with kernels directly. The kernel is made use of through the userland, which contains nearly the entire user experience, and the Android userland is almost completely different from your average desktop. Besides, Google might yank it all away tomorrow if Fuchsia gets anywhere.

>You wouldn't call windows phones to be something other than windows, would you? :^)

This blade has two edges, though, as installing separate forms of software can bite you if you don't pay attention.

Ubuntu on one laptop, KDE Neon on the other, OpenSUSE on my PC, Windows can get fucked.

Oh, wow, as if that's the only problem with Windows.
>>
>>60288952

>>
>>60286863
Not him, but what are you even talking about? Shouldn't people be aware of how much their OS is compromised and insecure?
>>
>>60288526
>every version of Mac combined into one
>windows split up
y tho
Also, how the hell is that the ratio? I feel like I never see Macs or Linux users.
>>
>>60286668
Not only do the news about exploits get published, the said exploits get patched almost the same day on the majority of distros.

>>60289119
Now you see how SaaS is a much better approach? It won't even allow such thoughts to emerge.

DELET THIS

And not forget to disable access to internet in windows.

wew lad, microsoft pajeets BTFO forever
>>
>>60289121
>y tho
Because there has only even been one instance in History where Mac users didn't upgrade en masse and that was 15 years ago when we moved to OSX. There is literally no movement anywhere of Apple fags encouraging each other to downgrade or to hold out on upgrading.

Windows is not like this. Fragmentation is beyond belief because Winfags can't handle change and Microsoft actively try to fuck them with each 'upgrade'

Thanks for confirming you're not actually being serious.

They don't know any better they've just joined the modern world and they've gotten their first PCs, all Windows 98 when they sell telecomm packages world wide so of course they think it's the best it's fucking Win98 I would too if I came out of a street toilet cave and was sat infront of my first Win98 PC.

not Mirai.

There are two grey botnets: BrickerBot and Hajime.

BrickerBot is pretty self explanatory.

Hajime is something else, someone is putting a lot of work into this worm. It infects IoT devices and patches the security holes.

>To be fair if we were to make a web page for every Microsoft exploit we would run out of IPv6 Address
Do you know hoy many IPv6 adresses are right?
Do you know that you can host several sites at the same IP address, right?
>I-I-I was just kidding
yeah, rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright
>>60286668
>Linux gets a exploit
>it gets a name and it's own website (heartbleed etc)
Do you know that Heartbleed was an error on OpenSSL and that it can be also installed in windows, right?

Come on /g/ get your shit together

> This is why you should allow Microsoft to install their own malware onto your PC. Microsoft's malware is good malware.

Linus will rip you to shreds if you try to push shitty code into the Kernel. He cares about the quality of the code over your feelings.
>>
>>60290222
He will also rip you to shreds if you try to push a security bug fix into the Kernel because he doesn't care about those.
>>
>>60287884
>you should also give away full access to you hdd goy

That's from the Alt in Alt+prtscn
>>
>>60291236
>Cherrypicking this much
having unpatchable routers is not the OS fault, but the OEM's and ISP that bought the fucking cheapest ones

>Windows patching in 4 hours

That is IF the user applies the patch

But of course, /g/'s mental gymnastics are in full force today
