I think you'd be surprised as to how much abuse thinner Macs can take. My 2007 MBP was dropped nearly daily for 5 years, and it only got a (maybe related?) graphics card failure at the end. I've been using the same MBA for nearly 6 years now (and sadly, dropping it nearly as often), and the only damage it has are some dents to the casing near the corners.

This. They have always been absolute shit. Trackpoints are somewhat better but still shit. Trackballs are #1. The only valid option for Desktop use.

Now, I'm not saying it's even on par with a typical dome keyboard, but the Macbook keyboard is actually pretty nice for a laptop keyboard. Ridiculously little travel length, so you have to get used to typing lightly, but the tactile response is well balanced and provides confidence in typing. Works great for coding at the coffee shop or doing homework. Then you get home and get on the computer with your comfy ass mechanical. I don't mind using it full time, either.
