yes it is an IME that inputs kanji. the IME can use romaji- or kana-based modes, which is the one which requires the number row. but most use romaji; at least I was told that by a Japanese person once.

Most programming methods have a sleep/wake option. For power I imagine you can add a simple macro code that will power off, but power back on? Not sure..

>>

if you have programmed macros or rgb lighting try resetting it. i had this type of issue when i set a too complex rgb color pattern on my choc mini rgb where the keyboard would be unresponsive for like 1-2 seconds once in a while.

Anyone has IBM Model M here?
How good is it for gaming? I'm mainly doing programming and CS:GO / osu. I heard they are very good for typing, but the 2KRO scared me a bit
>>
>>60259407
The FPS cluster is a non-issue because the way the matrix is laid out allows pretty much all common key combos based on WASD to work. Don't know about osu.
>>
>>60259432
Thats good to hear, maybe I'll get a model M then. For osu you only use X/Y (X/Z for US layout, different layout for me) so thats probably not a problem, maybe just the time / force of pressing a key, and the durability of the keys

Not that difficult, you'd just need to have a plate cut at lasergist and either find a PCB that supports your layout, design one yourself, or handwire it. I recommend the latter. Finding keycaps may be a bit more difficult, but SP offers all kinds of DSA caps, so it shouldn't be impossible.

Browns are the switch for normies who don't want the clicking noise and are scared by the concept of linear switches. If only Cherry made factory ergoclears and normie companies put them in boards, then no-one would want browns.

I'll assume you are talking about the 68. Well the ducky keyboard has more keys and much much better keycaps. I'd go with the PBT version, but the ABS keycaps are fine too. Ducky also has programmable macro support while the magic force doesn't. Besides the keycaps Ducky has a steel plate, while magicforce has an aluminum one. Magicforce also has a dip switch on the back that replaces caps lock with Ctrl, which I find really nice. ducky also does have dip switches, but those only switch the position of the FN key. Personally I took the 82 over the 68, but that ends up costing more then the ducky since you have to replace the awful stock keycaps. I'd pass on the cherry magicforce version and get the gateron one instead. Also be prepared to also factor replacement keycaps in your budget if you do go with the magicforce, since the stock ones are garbage.

what's going to be the difference between the gateron and cherry switches? it's only a $7 difference... also recommended keycaps?

the smoothness. cherry switches feel scratch in comparison, now while people say that cherry recently updated their molds, its gonna take a long time for the new smooth cherry switches to find their way into the cheap chinese keyboards. the one thing that I like about ducky is that their stock keycaps are on a whole other level compared to their competition. you'd have to spend 40-50 bucks to get keycaps that are better then them in quality. I'd go with these cherry profile dye-sub PBT keycaps as they are slightly better then the stock keycaps that come on the Ducky One PBT version

what's the language? i suggest using the US ANSI layout and if you need special characters put them on key combos or toggle-layers. but it's possible to get some layouts which up until recently were very obscure like this swedish keycap set:

Additional programmable keys that are proprietary to the keyboard manufacturer have a lot of potential downsides. The main one is they often rely on shitty driver software that is okay at best and generally will become unsupported within 5 years as new operating systems come out.

Many of us, myself included, also prefer a smaller keyboard and additional keys go against that preference.

That keyboard is a Keycool 84 or one of the rebrands (MK84, Drevo Gramr). The Keycool version comes with Kailh switches, the MK.com version has Greetech switches and the Drevo version has Outemu switches.

MX Silvers are just MX Reds with a shorter actuation distance. I think the reduced actuation distance makes them very uncomfortable to type on and the actuation distance makes no real difference to MX reds when gaming.

Well if you like Cherry linears or browns, it might be worth trying out. Topre doesn't feel particularly tactile unless you go for the 55 gram weight. Really though the feel is very similar to high quality rubber dome. I wouldn't say that Topre feels better than MX, just different. If you like rubber domes, Topre might be a sound investment, but it isn't to my liking.
>>
>>60269177
Seems like the latter. I tried a novatouch, which basically felt like a nicer rubberdome board. The travel was smoother than a generic dome board but they were still just kind of unpleasant mush and the upstroke is loud so they aren't even quiet. Tactility is meh and you basically can't avoid bottoming out when the dome collapses so you can't really take advantage of the mid-stroke actuation of the capacitive sensors (should be much more reliable than a standard dome though). Ended up returning the Novatouch and actually got a Realforce 87U thinking it'd be better with the genuine article but it was exactly the same. Later I resold the 87U for more than I paid for it, so at least overall I didn't lose anything trying.

tl;dr: they're rubber domes and they feel like it, albeit nice ones. If you're not into that keyfeel then they have nothing to offer.

topre is a high quality version of what i'm used to, and i suspect that people who are used to mech dislike topre because they're used to mech

i would never call topre economical but i spend like 14h a day on this fucking thing so it's important that it doesn't annoy me

Why are these threads always seemingly the same 5 faggots all posting their same board pictures with some newfriend questions and answers mixed in between? Honestly if this weren't a general and more of an occasional thread instead it might improve the quality.

In fact, general threads are kind of like reddit-tier in the first place.
>>
>>60273017
The keycaps in that image are "DCS" Dolch.
>>
>>60273069
I had one but sold it. I prefer a 75% that has an actual dedicated nav cluster and such or a tenkeyless. I'm actually using an old BTC 5100C right now I picked up for $3. I was comparing it to my original buckling sleeve capacitive BTC 5100. The rubber dome version actually feels better to type on because it has greater key travel and less actuation force. Poor man's topre right there, even though you have to bottom out.

It's definitely worth checking out a few various kinds in a reasonable price range to get a feel for what you really like vs. going whole hog on something and finding out you don't really like it.

>be me
>buy a planck (40%) kit on MD
>order with cherry greens
>order with blank keycaps
>buy a pack of white 3mm LEDs to solder in
>be waiting 5 months to get it and paying $150 for it
>be not going to have it for another 2 months still
>be fag whos never used anything other than standard QWERTY on a gaymer tier kb

Did I fall for too many memes at once? How hard is it going to be for me to learn as a qwerty only fag used to a full size gaymer corsair with browns to learn a 40% ortholinear with blank keycaps and greens? Oddly, I hardly game anyway cause im far too busy with school and work (coding), but I fell for the gaymer meme years ago when I first started building my own PCs. And, to be perfectly honest, a full size keyboard with browns is pretty comfy for coding anyway, but not quite as stiff as I like since I'm a big guy with a strong touch and big hands. (pic related)

I feel like its going to be a super tough transition, especially to get back up to par for my WPM and coding pace, so should I try to learn a new layout while I'm at it since I have to learn so much on this new KB anyway? Or should I just say fuck it and build the thing with the LED's and the limited edition MD green aluminum and sell it to a redditfag who wants a planck with greens and blanks + leds already built? I feel like I could get my money back if I really needed so I might was well go all out with this experience.

>inb4 blog post
>inb4 fatass (pic related proves im just a big boy)
>>
>>60273600
For maximum memes you should have got tactile grays or clears instead. Less noise but all the tactile joy. I never really saw the point of blanks because when you use different keyboards, it's nice to have a point of reference. But hey, all a matter of taste.

40% is your maximum fuckup though. They look cute but are not serious keyboards for everyday use in any way. Best bet is to build the thing. It will only take a few hours. Then use it until you get sick of it and sell it. That way you won't be tempted ever again.
>>
>>60273664

yeah I fear the 40% is going to be the real problem here. Think I can sell it to a plebbitor for > $160 if its unusable for me? Or should I just keep it for the lulz and fun? I'm leaning towards keeping it for something unique, even if I don't use it. I feel like I could have several redditors clamoring for a pre-built planck with greens and white leds with a MD exclusive backplate though
>>
>>60273869
imo don't touch the kit, keep everything brand new and unassembled, if you can sell it for $120+ then do that and get something else like >>60273069 or just anything besides a 40% keyboard
>>
>>60273869
I'd keep it for having a cute portable keyboard and taking maximum dank instagram pictures with. I admit 40% would be a tad too extreme for me, I took 2 months to get used to a 60%
>>
>>60274014
or yeah if it's worth more pre-assembled then do that and sell it

Omron Ambers would be the next loudest as they are even louder then the model F. You can find a couple boards for like 150-200 bucks. The problem however is that they aren't well built so finding one that is in near perfect condition is very rare.
