Could a good quality 550w PSU handle a 290x and a ryzen 1700?

doesn't the 290x pulls insane watt ? like 250+ ?
i think you would be safer with a 600 W

I am getting a 570 coupled with 1700X. 650W should be enough in my system. It should be similar (if not, lower) to your case as well.

Define "good quality."
It should be in the 400W range so I'd trust an XFX 550W to handle it. Not sure about anyone else's 550's.

He probably means a "gold" certified

Except gold means nothing other than it hits a certain efficiency number at 20%, 50%, and 80% of the label rating. Nothing about regulation, safety features, thermals, transients, or long term reliability.

My Seasonic 550W unit handles a 8c Xeon, a GTX 660 and a GT 440 144 at full load easily enough, and prior to the GTX 660 there was a 460 installed, and it ran on that as well.
In other words, you should be fine with a 550W unit, however i'd still recommend a 600W at the minimum.
