Samsung vs iPhone

samsung for looks and functionality
iphone for the better cpu, android is great at first but over the following weeks/months (or even days) you notice sluggishness that you just learn to put up with

TouchWiz has had a long history of being a snail after a while. They have improved the skin immensely however, but there's still a bit of sluggishness when compared to stock

Stock Android is smooth as fuck, and you'll notice over TouchWiz. TouchWiz does give you some nice utilities and perks, however

i can only assume it has something to do with the mixture of updates that demand nicer hardware, and general app installation that fucks with performance

it's not so bad, but you know that "showroom" quality you get when you scroll through pages, flip through apps etc? you'll notice very slight stuttering that fucks with the snappy feeling over time with regular usage

it's not that i haven't noticed it on iphones as well, but it's a thing with android too. could also be phone specific (samsung because of touchwiz, etc)

that being said, htc's one m8 was never bad for me, seeing as sense ui was almost stock. it never had a noticeable slowdown over time. only downside was the battery was meh and the phone ran hot lol

I sold my ip7+ for a gs8+.

There are many benefits to the gs8+, I even like the fingerprint sensor more, despite the universal scorn for it. I in love with the "Pro mode" camera settings. I've missed swiftkey more than anything. That being said there's a pile of fucked up shit.

The haptics are loud and horrible, everybody really needs to catch up here. There's a lot of animation stuttering. Bixby is a compete joke and that extra physical button will only be useful once you can natively remap it. The notification center is ugly. The amount of convoluted stupid bloat were on the phone (verizon) is astonishing. The lack of live photos is a massive fucking bummer, all my old pictures feel dead to me now, the auditory context to the picture was often really cute and sentimental. The slow motion sucks in comparison. Even with the iso cranked down to 50, the noise on certain photos, most notably in the daytime sky is really stupid. The software is really buggy, I often lose "restarted" timers and I highly doubt that will ever get fixed. The screen tweaks out with certain alerts (notably timers) and flickers on and off.

I've only spent a week with it so far. My opinion is really mixed but I so like it for the most part.

Oh and one more thing I forgot to mention. I don't know what's going on but my LTE is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY slower and noticeably more sporadic on my gs8+. I don't know if my unit is defective but on my commute I'm left without data more often.

How is Gear VR on the S8 Plus? Being able to watch movies on a VR theatre screen without it being awful would lean my decision heavily in the S8's direction.

What perks, exactly? I don't hare on it, I have it on my current phone, but I'm curious what I'd be missing out on if I got rid of it.
