The problem is that no one uses open source solutions. I tried using QTox but no one uses this. It ended up with me returning to Skype whenever I wanted to chat and Skype is pure shit nowadays, even if you block all ads.

I used Skype 3.8 for a long time, but when I upgraded from Windows Vista this old version didn't work anymore. Good old times... Discord is a decent solution, I love the link-creation and chats without needing to register or download. Its perfect for anonymous and temporary contacts chatting too.

Looks like success of achieving critical mass, when users will became to approach community because of it's size instead of leaving it (because of it's size) depends mostly on luck and/or aggressive advertising.
