Telemetry is off by default in firefox to begin with. The amount of data they receive comes from people who know about the option and deliberately chose to enable it which likely skews a bit toward developers rather than normalfags.

The "additional data" option is there if you want to send additional telemetry data which can include data that is traceable back to you.

Nothing to do with Telemetry. Every browser used XUL extensions because that's all there was, power user or not.
