So sometimes, and I literally mean sometimes because this problem seems to be totally random. When I boot my computer it can hang on the POST screen, or on the "Starting Windows" screen like in pic related. Sometimes it only hangs for 30seconds or so, other times minutes; so I do a hard reset. Then other times the computer boots with no problems and I'm ready to go in under 20 seconds. I thought it was something I messed around with in my settings or bios because the win7 install was years old, but I just did a reformat today and cleared the bios and still have the same problem.
Anyone know of a solution or a way to find out what's going on? Any help would be very nice

>>60237463
I assume you aren't trying to run it on 10+ years old hardware are you?

this

Or the fact you tried to in stall windows 7 on very new hardware.

You can't do it.
the highest you can install a windows 7 machine was skylake and earlier hardware, later that support was dropped also you really can't on NVMe without massive problems so I can't remeber what is below skylake but yeah best off going on eariler hardware yeah so you going to have issues installing
windows 7 on anything not a sata ssd or sata HDD.

and also really old hardware with single core can't run windows 7 ether you need at least 2 cores and 2GB ram

OP here, both of these are my rig.
So the SMART info is different on speccy and crystaldisk, speccy has my correct power cycle, on time, and stuff. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but here's a pic of speccys SMART test

found the probelm.

Okay so its just the 1060 giving errors.
sell it and get a maxwell chip that should solve the issue.
Pascal is not supported in windows 7.
your system looks fine for everything else.
>>
>>60238368
Well I had a 660 before this that was working fine and then it suddenly started. Decided to upgrade to the 1060 anyway because I got it cheap.

Also you're wrong. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3193584/gtx-1060-6gb-run-win7.html

I have a very similar situation.

I had crashes when playing games and after a while of fruitless debugging I decided to buy a new GPU. I went for a 1060.

It ran fine for a few months until I started to get random slow startups. If I continue to use my computer after a slow start-up everything graphic-related will run in slow-motion.

Weeks after the previous issue started acting up, my PC also started crashing immediately after doing anything 3D. It can crash too while playing videos or simply browsing the web.

If I look up error messages it often tells me the directX driver has stopped responding.
>>
>>60238703
Doesn't sound very similar. Mine literally only sometimes has a problem starting up, everything else runs fine. Playing games, moving files around my drives, watching youtube, everything works great
>>
>>60238785
oh ok then
>>
>>60237463
I actually had this same problem on a client's PC and that was the problem >>60237811
1 in 5 reboots this happened.

Disk was 7 years old or so and BIOS already started giving S.M.A.R.T. errors, just like Windows.

New disk in, Windows 7 installed and updated and the problem seemed to be gone.
>>
>>60238831
Everything seems to be pointing to a disk problem. I read that SSDs usually die out fast when they start to go, and this has been a problem for couple years. I suppose I could try installing win 7 to another drive I have laying around and see if that works, then I'll know if it's the drive or something else
>>
>>60237463
Check your memory frecuency in BIOS
>>
>>60238925
It says my DRAM frequency is 1600, 1:6
and voltage is 1.585V on auto.
I never changed these settings
