Going to be installing Linux mint soon. Trying to determine the best desktop environment to use. Is Cinnamon any good?
MATE

I love using Cinnamon on Arch. Most esthetically pleasing and functional desktop in my opinion.
CDE
Cinnamon is the only point in using mint. If you're not gonna use cinnamon, use a different distro.
Hell, even if you are gonna use cinnamon, use a different distro

>fucks up most themes
>nemo needs nautilus, why not just use nautilus, kek
>slower than mate/xfce/lxde
>less customizable than mate/xfce/lxde
Guess animations would be a plus, if you're into that kind of thing. Cinnamon comes with a decent compositor(?) and doesn't tear like Mate or Xfce4 either.
Is Linux Mint a bad distro? I'm just getting started, and it seemed like a good place to start.

It's gud.

Cinnamon is what GNOME 3 should be.
Personally I prefer MATE but Cinnamon is a fine choice

It's a good place to start. It gets a ton of hate because it's quite insecure, uses a ton of proprietary software and is mostly "glued together".
To the casual user coming from Windows, it's a perfectly fine distribution and way better OS than Windows. You most likely don't want to play around with drivers, font rendering, flash or any of the basic proprietary shit so it's all included.
I still can't see a reason to pick Mint over Ubuntu though.

Mint? Cinnamon is the only answer.

On my 5 year old laptop, the only distro that doesn't lag is Mint.
Tried Xubuntu, Manjaro, Solus (LOL) and Antergos

I have had the exact same experience
