Basically. They're the non-asshole's Rolex as people who want bling never go for them. Plus they're the most versatile Rolex as it's a certified chronometer sports watch that can also go perfectly well in a formal suit-and-tie event.

With the beveled bezel the 40mm daydate just looks swollen and unrefined. The smaller one looks better in that regard. Give the big one the smooth bezel and then you have something.

This is true. I don't really like many modern Rolex watches anyway. They're still obviously great quality, but all of their watches are getting needlessly big which I despise, and I dislike how they got rid of actual serial numbers which to me "connects" it to history and a definitive time which is a big appeal to me.

I'm currently saving up to get a 14270 while they're still cheap as I think they're going to skyrocket in price once people go back to sensible sizes and the only way to do that is go vintage.

The original day date is smaller. It's still in production and likely never to leave, especially with the slow reversal back to smaller sizes.

newb here, I've been lurking here for a while and from what I've seen here and tried on IRL, I've realized that I want a small business/dress watch I can wear with a suit. Someone posted the Seiko Dolce a few threads back and while it's really nice, I just can't swing $400 for a watch right now.

Pic related is cheap and has a vaguely similar look. I know it's not 'nice' in the sense that you guys mean it (just a cheap Chinese watch), but is it something that looks nice enough from a normal viewing distance, or are the differences painfully obvious to anyone?

Mainly I want to wear it for job interviews and for when I'm wearing a more business casual type attire.
