>Reports around the web (and posts on Intel's forums) speak in hushed, strained and horrified voices at how some users with Intel's Core i7-7700 processors are seeing strangely random temperature spikes on their processors

>Apparently, some users are seeing temperature spikes that reach as high as as high as 90°C

Its designed that way. A brief spike just means the NSA is accessing your system through the backdoor. As soon as they copy what they need (usually less than 1 min), the temps go back to normal. Literally a non-issue.

Why are people blaming Intel?

It's clearly the fault of the Vietnamese kids working in Intel's factories. Damn them all to hell! Pieces of shit can't even put TIM on a CPU properly--let's see how they enjoy not having a meal for a month!

Then it's a voltage problem.

My 7700K never goes over 69°C, pic related after having used my computer all day to play games, watch stuff, have 100 pixiv waterfox tabs opened, archiving stuff, downloading, uploading, ... and it's been like this for over a month since I built this computer. Every single day I monitored my temperatures closely to make sure everything was fine and everything IS fine. I could even LOWER my vcore I'm sure and gain some more °C.

So what's the deal with all of these people? It's definitely a voltage problem or something.

>>
>>60219761
They're probably over volting too high. But don't fool yourself. You'll find the need to de-lid or buy a new CPU within a few years because the internal paste will crack causing huge temperature spikes. My buddy's original 4770k did that. He had it overclocked to 4.6ghz under water and it didn't exceed 50C. Then random it started creeping upwards in tell until it was now running at 82C+ under the same loads as before.

A de-lid is inevitable if you're talking long term for your chip.

You may be right, but I don't mind it too much especially if it at least hits the 3 years mark. I've already informed myself on the process and it doesn't seem too complicated nor expensive. We'll see.

Another choice could be selling it if it ever reaches that point and buying a new mobo+CPU, whether something Intel or AMD, whoever knows what there will be 3 years from now.

>>
>>60221097
It's /g/ and the internet overhyping a minor issue because "muh Jews"
The temperature fluctuations are normal and happen in every other CPU Intel (and AMD for that matter) have ever made. The only difference with this generation is that the core multipliers and voltage are much more adjustable (along with the improved Turbo Boost latency for much more immediate changes in boost frequency), along with an improved temperature sensor layout for more accurate thermal signature readings in the silicon. This means that the CPU runs as hot as any other generation, except the sensors are picking up on the fluctuation a little too eagerly.

Also, don't overclock on a K SKU because it voids your warranty.

-t. Shekelmeister Shekelbergensteinowitz
>>
If the CPU is hitting it's near max temp and CPU usage is maxing out the question should be more on the lines of why is my CPU hitting 100% use rather than why does it get warm when hitting 100%?

Indeed. The 4 core pieces (with and without HT) on HEDT socket are already 112W a pop, and that's without iGPU. 6 core coffee lake is coming alegedly at 3.5GHz base clock and will most likely melt the fucking socket if OC'd beyond Ryzen numbers,

For a quick reminder, R5 1600 and R7 1700 are 65W CPUs on the stock clocks and already give current i5 and i7 a run for their money.

not op but there are many factors to it. it comes down to how much paste was applied, quality of the paste, how many times you turn off and on the computer, and where the paste is drying / cracking. haswell refresh, devils canyon, intel did upgrade the quality of the paste due to the amount of complaints with the original stuff they were using on haswell. but even then, eventually you will most likely have to delid and reapply anew.

>>60231888 I belive this is what killed my 2600. Temps went crazy and I couldn't figure out why, then a lightning strike cut out power while it was under load cutting off the fan. Started failing post after that, died a few months later. It was a boxed piece is shit and I was a novice and I want to replace it from the ground up anyway, but shit now I'll never finish Dark Messiah.
>how many times you turn off
for longevity should I leave my pc on overnight or turn it off whenever I'm not using it?

It's eBay, they're so buyer-biased you could be on camera receiving and signing for the package and still get your money back by claiming it never arrived.

Disagree. P200 with MMX technology paired with 64mb RAM and a 16MB Voodoo3 2000 pci.

Apparently some users need to get some decent paste and reseat their proc. Maybe even spend 45 bucks on a decent cooler like the Reeven Justice.
