But for real, I work in a multinational company that doesn't really care for introducing you to all it's (and it's product's) inner workings that are sometimes neccessary to know. But nobody ever hears an abbreviation and ask "what's that?", they'll say something like "I'm not familiar how X works".

I just learned that the best course of action is to pretend that you know at least a little about whatever's in question and it will somehow pan out.

EE/CE major here, absolutely getting butt fucked by 18 semester hours for four years of uni while CS majors only have to take 13. I do envy how much time they have to work on their CS projects (because I have a lot of the classes they take), but at the same time, they're not going to understand shit when it comes to the hardware aspect of it all.

>inb4 cuts in to remastered profits
Not really because Remastered, i'd imagine, would use modern Battle.net that'll support all your friends joining your game easier than running a bootleg compiled version of the same game that doesn't even communicate on the same network.
>>
>>60203419
How is this relevant for the developers?
The developers gets paid to make the software. It is corporate politics to keep that stuff secret.
If the code ended up online, they would have to find a better way to make money, but it wouldn't affect the programmers.
>>60206631
This is a good example of the difference with open source and free software.
Blizzard would have legal standing to bankrupt companies that used this in any way, so I doubt that it would change much.

I just realized how comfy it is, that I grew up in pre-Facebook times..

I mean I was probably just as stupid with 14, but at least I coulnd't tell the world about it, so no one will ever know.
This guy will also grow up. And then he'll find a job. And just when he thinks everything is fine someone will accidentally see this picture and he'll have to quit his job because he'll be the laughing stock for everyone there.
>>
>>60201789

That's actually a pretty cool story..

>>60210159

You see, that's the point.
Blizzard could have nothing to make sure he didn't just copy the disk. Maybe he even did?

But you have to be a real huge dick with no morals at all to take all those presents, go to BlizzCon - and leak it nevertheless.

So while it's of course a nice way to say "thank you" from Blizzard, it's also a pretty clever move.

BTW I've heard many times that Blizzard is one of the nicest empoyers out there, also I their games are great and were part of my childhood. So personally I'd always return something to them..

This might be jokey and all, but I once spent 45min trying to set up the native windows network sharing for shits and giggles, between a win 7 and a win 10 machine on a bridged wifi connection. Ended up trying from the same network anyway, and failed. I just put the things I needed onto my phone and did it in 4 min...

> just a subset of javascript

True, but that's not what he posted.

He posted wasm, which is an actual assembly language and corresponding binary code.

Here's some example wasm code:

get_local 0
i64.const 0
i64.eq
if i64
i64.const 1
else
get_local 0
get_local 0
i64.const 1
i64.sub
call 0
i64.mul
end

and here's the hex representation of its corresponding binary code, which will be the code actually delivered to the browser:

20 00
42 00
51
04 7e
42 01
05
20 00
20 00
42 01
7d
10 00
7e
0b

Yes, this is what the future web will be.

Same here. Wc1 was one of the first pc games i played, i must have been like 6. Wc2 was a childhood defining game for me and i still reinstall it sometimes from that black cd with the blue sword hilt on it. I played sc1 and diablo 1 and 2 in my early teens. Jumped into wow mid BC and that lasted on and off for 7 years. Then it was sc2 and d3 up till now. Fuck overwatch.

I really dont care to leak the source code to a 19 year old game.

But i wonder, what could one gain from leaking it? Surely there is someone willing to pay big bucks for it. Or maybe that person is a blizz employee b8ing to get their stolen shit back and send you to jail. Who knows
>>

I'm going to assume on that source CD is there style of how they write there coding for all there games. Seeing how everyone wants to see whats on the source code: either embarrassing intermediate coding or clever tricks and shortcuts on how cheat customers. Or maybe a sex scandal and has some dirt on there CEO boss. Or maybe the coding is code breaker to find Jimmy Hoffa's body and Blizzard probably has it and is using his labored body to power the workers there.

Shit now I really wanna know what's on that Disc..

It's still just a simple byte code that needs to be run by a virtual machine - the same virtual machine that's running the JavaScript already usually.
It's just more efficient, because you don't need to lex, parse and optimize a block of text and you don't need to guess types anymore.

In its current form, it can't even access web APIs or anything. Just create an environment with virtual memory (including a fixed stack size) and then expose functions that take integers from JS code and return integers to it, without side effects.

I really wish stupid fucktards like you stopped complaining about it. You obviously have no idea what is. All you read is "web" and "assembly" and in your retard mind 1+1 now makes three, so "THOSE STOOPET WEPPTARDS PUT ASSEMPLI IN MUH WEPP DID NOBODY THINK ABOUT SEGGURIDI? EVERYONE BUT ME IS STOPPET!"

Its an xbox devkit pc. It was used to make xbox games back in the day however right nnow, these things are sought after because they would contain files and source code that would improve xbox emulation by 1000%. However, a redditor gets ahold of one without realizing what he has and proceeds to wipe it.
Once again why redditors are retarded.
>>
>>60244356
Ye but the disc had the source code, even if the game is free as in free beer we still don't have the source code as long as it's not free as in free software.

The source code would open up vast modding and editing potential.

They're mildly amusing the first time you see them. The second time they're boring and trite. The 200th time you start hating the sight of them.
Yet they seem to be treated like the funniest thing ever and reposted in every single ylyl, sometimes several times per thread.

They are also very close to the type of humour that only people who recently learned the basics of programming will laugh at, because "hahaha they are l33t hackers now and they get all the l33t hacker jokes". You also sound like this type of person, by the way, with your "only real programmers can get these jokes, so if you don't find them funny, leave, because I'm a REAL programmer and I laughed at them" comment.
>>
>>60244920
Because everyone always respects licenses and never redistributes anything that violates a license, right?

And besides if you use knowledge of the source code to make a mod, that mod doesn't necessarily violate the license. Maybe you're just that good at modding. Nobody can prove anything.

Why are you a retard? It's the same reason: some people are born that way.

Just casually browsing /g/ and find the murder of your high school classmates mom.
>>
>>60253600
you should find out for sure. It might be kinda interesting to get an update for that shitfest.
>>
>>60255398
All I know is that this guy probably posted on 4chan, had a mom that heavily favored his sister, and that mom bought his sister a laptop while the guy got nothing. This became a sensitive subject, because he doesn't talk to them any longer for a reason he never explained, so I'm scared of asking, especially since I haven't talked to him in years. It's probably not him now that I think of it.
