So I have a netbook (pic related) and it's pretty useless as a computer. It has window 7 installed and lags out furiously with every single command.
So I thought about finding a much less demanding OS to use it as a basic youtube/notes/facebook machine. Lubuntu popped up a few places.
Thing is, I now shit about Linux, and since a lot of you seem to use it often, I was wondering what would you do with a shitty netbook were you in my position?

I had a 1001px. Windows 10 ran better than 7. Lubuntu might work fine but it's still not going to be what you'd call fast. This is a machine that will benefit from tinkering or a more custom distro to run smoothly.
Lubuntu is good.
I have Xubuntu on mine! I think it is great.

Fedora LXDE is another option if you're okay with no fun allowed. Works well with Intel Atoms.

>I know shit about linux
then you get linux mint xfce. Lightweight and friendly to noobs.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
You can still use Windows 10 on it.
It's not very fast.
I'd recommend Xubuntu 16.04.2

Xubuntu was super laggy for me for some reason

You're better off going with Windows 10 LTSB, getting an overclocking utility, and undervolting it. Linux will suck your battery.
I was given one of these a couple weeks back. Atom single core at 1.6ghz with ht, 1gig ram.
Battery is dead and never played with linux would it be enough to keep near bed for late night shitposting or looking up a youtube vid?

Since it's most likely all-Intel (no Nvidia or AMD shit) I suggest OpenBSD. It's far lighter than any DE-based Linux distro, but is still fully featured. Everything including X will be set up at install with sane defaults.

It will probably struggle with YouTube above 360p.
Shut up Mr. Stallman.

I use Lubuntu.
It's perfect for what you're talking about, but if your trackpad sucks, try a minimal distro with a tiling wm. Or don't, it's a bit of work.
