Hello grandpa. You'll be happy to hear that in the year 2017 we don't need these bulky and clunky ancient machines music playback devices from WW2. Just use that advance alien technology we kids like to call "android smartphones" to play your favorite tunes. I'm sure one of your grandkids has gifted you one already.
>>
>>60181123

oh so you go jogging with your cellphone?
>>
>>60181123
Does your cell phone last 28 hours?
>>
>>60181173
Mine lasts ~50 assuming I'm only shitposting on 4chan instead of doing anything intense.
I still own a dedicated mp3 player because I like dedicated hardware, but the point remains. I'm pretty sure I could get 28 hours of audio out of it if I really needed to.

I had a rockboxed ipod nano 2nd gen, shit was cash but upgraded to a sansa clip+ because the nano only had 8gb of space. The my sansa got nigged and forgot about rockbox.

Now that there's a new version after 4 years, I wanna rockbox a new music player but I don't know which one should I get, used sansas are really expensive. From the rockbox supported models, which ones support micro sd cards?

>>60181516
amd has had his own botnet since the ahtlon era too.
there's no escaping the botnet.

I have a brand new clip plus I've never opened because the limit was 8000 songs so if I install rockbox will it be the same?

I still have a sealed clip Zip and a pair of sealed Mee S6 earbuds.

I think I'm going back to having a dedicated mp3 player as my phone can't play flacs for shit.
>>
>>60184031
There was a chink one that was gaining support and had some documentation
But it apparently didn't get enough traction, unfortunately most Rockbox devs nowadays just use their phones
>>
>>60184031
There is the Fiio M3, it looked promising but I haven't really checked it out for a while. Certainly not as cheap as the Clip+ though.

doesn't that ultimately depreciate rockbox at its core function as a project?
>>
>>60185955
Because all the next players were dead-set on adding fancy screens and color stuff instead of building a decent MP3 player. Then they became media devices that played video. Then smartphones.
>>
>>60185975
It is deprecated; Rockbox is basically gone, I'm surprised it even got this after 4 years
>>
>>60186016
there is still niche demand for having a small cheap device that you can fill with music

it's much cheaper to have a clip with a 128gb micro sd than getting a good phone with the same capacity

not to mention the added bonus of a small profile, clip, and complete set of physical buttons

This is the perfect exercise player, something the ishit shuffle couldn't do

Well my phone automatically connects to my car and I can just say "Ok Google, play Mika" and Google Play Music automatically starts playing.

Deck also supports Pandora controls so I can launch the app, skip songs, thumbs up/down, and switch stations with the dial.

My car is really the only place I listen to music when I'm not home and I've never been in a situation where I couldn't just stream shit.

wasn't rockbox the thing you put in gogears and such
>>
>>60185955
They all use ingenic soc. There is a jz port but it's not done yet.
The soc is not too well documented (false info and such), and the chinks are not interested in rockbox. Also the issue of various obscure hardware in them.
The port has been going since the FiiO X1 and it's still nowhere near useable.
>>
>>60187677
cause you listen to weabo trash thats growing man tits due to high soy consumption you garbage.
>>
>>60188029
Interesting. So the largest problem is obscure undocumented soc

But with the speed at which hardware is born in China you would think that at least one product comes out to meet the niche of being a dev friendly soc with more durable parts

I guess there's just not enough of a market
>>
>>60188123
I listen to country or pop and don't eat highly processed foods.

Today I had a 2 egg omelette with pepper jack, two roast beef sandwiches with pickles and horseradish, 3 tangelos, a banana, 20oz of greek yogurt, and some focaccia bread with cheddar, jalapenos, and bacon.

I do 30-45 minutes of cardio and 30-45 minutes of strength training and I'm probably healthier than the majority of the disgusting fucks (you included) that shitpost here.

>>60188207
>I-I need to prove myself on an anonymous gook toon board

>>
>>60188183
Chinkshit is never dev friendly.
Also they really do all use the same ingenic soc. JZ4760 or X1000 for the newer ones.
Low tier players use ATJ or RK nano which can't run rockbox.
High tier ones run android.

Only exceptions are sony and cowon.

For instance, someone with PTSD, general anxiety, or sociopathy vs someone with schizophrenia, autism, or homosexuality.
>>
>>60188295
I see. What made the clip+ good for rockbox devs? Was Sandisk more compliant in documentation compared to generic ingenic soc? I mean, if all these players are running the same soc what is the barrier to development? (I know nothing about this but it's rare knowledge so thanks for sharing)

>>
>>60188368
AMS (maker of the soc used) gave them a hand with the docs iirc. Maybe more, don't really remember.
Ingenic have docs and sample code (a linux port and an rtos), but the docs have errors.
The real reason though is because there is literally one person working on it which is also working on 2 other ports. There is already a unofficial jz port but it was kinda a copy paste hackjob and the guy doesn't want to maintain it so it can't be accepted into official.
>>
Have they made an option to change the default action on rockbox?

>>
>>60181645
>I wanna rockbox a new music player but I don't know which one should I get
Any new Sansa is 50 bucks on average; 25 for 64GB or 50 for 128GB micro-SD. $100 for an obsolete piece of technology is just stupid, especially if your whole purpose is just installing some meme FOSS firmware in it.

Worse in what way? Slower data transfer?
>>
>>60191013
As in it doesn't work at all.

It'll charge, but that's it.

Windows keeps trying to find mountable volumes until it's unplugged, then the clip+ goes into a panic.

It's fine with the Sansa firmware though.

I have a ton of old torrents from demonoid with good collections of music but they're a hassle to rename and retag, even with batch tools.

I checked the site a bit but looks like none of the devices are video players, just mp3 players, some unstable releases run on mp3 players that also have small screens but still far from a video player.
How comes they haven't ported the system to any video player so far? there's huge potential, small screens are very useful to use in combination with other hardware, from portable consoles to video surveillance, rpi, orange pi or other similar system.
>>
>>60193476
>How comes they haven't ported the system to any video player so far?

because it's a lot easier to write software to play audio on very low-end, low-wattage hardware
>>
>>60193476
it's a bit of a jump from audio player to video player
audio players only need basic framebuffer graphics support, video players will require making drivers for far more complex graphics/video decoder hardware
plus video players tend to be more powerful devices in the first place, making something like a linux-based solution more suitable

I get ya, depends on what you listen though but finding new worthwhile stuff is always a bitch. Nowadays I just use a few sites/blogs that review recent stuff, sample on youtube and dl if worthy.

And they also killed What.cd. Though I never used it that much.
Had a great buffer, but it was technically impossible to build a proper ratio, so I never risked my buffer.
Kinda stupid, but that's how ratio based sites were/are. And the more elite they are, the worse it gets.

Music brainz Picard to get the track information, followed by mp3tag to rename and move files onto folders.

I used Winamp instead of Picard but, that functionality is dead now.

So deezloader is gonna stop working any day then?
>>
>>60196753
Don't know. I doubt the company is going to try and fix anything on their side, I believe they would be happy if the development of it just stops, which they've accomplished. Until they do some major revision that breaks it either way.

I'm with you dude. I came to the board to see if it were a troll. Nope, mp3 players in 2017.
"Muh 28hours of playback."
Yeah, I definitely need that much battery life, while my phone charges. Oh wait.

I'm happy to see someone else who remembers Mininova, that was my first tracker after I "graduated" from Limewire.

>the only way to get music is Spotify
If you aren't too autistic about sound quality, the normie way of pirating music these days is to rip it from YouTube, which can be done with youtube-dl. As for trackers, you can probably find what you're looking for on Rutracker, or if you don't feel like dealing with slavs you can go to /ptg/ and suck someone's peepee for a private tracker invite.

I almost always use my phone for music, but I bought a $10 mp3 player from China for a trip. Has a sdcard slot and plays FLAC so I didn't need to transcodes .

Shits so cheap might as well have that shit for when you need it.

Suprnovas was better.

Use soulseek for music. You can get everything private trackers have. Half the users have their private tracker seeding folder shared.

It's way less hassle than BitTorrent I find, especially if you only want one track.

How come they suddenly decided to wake this project up again? I think I'm the last person out of everyone I know who still bothers with MP3 files at all; as someone already said in this thread, most people either use Spotify or just play the song they want from YouTube nowadays. Most of the supported MP3 players can't be purchased easily these days either, which of course kills demand.

Pretty neat to see something from my high school days pop up on /g/ though. My final MP3 player (which was of course Rockboxed) tragically died during the summer of 2012, I still miss it ;_; Sure, Android can do more stuff, but muh physical buttons

I'd rather use the $50 phone I got from Walmart to play music. Does everything I want and costs just a little more than a useless Sansa Clip.

Enjoy being glued to a wall constantly charging that shit to get any use out of it

Do these people never have to commute past their basement? You can't even get FM signal throughout a car journey, never mind fucking 4G

Some guy here replaced good with one with almost double the capacity, everything he had top do was solder the thing
It barely fit in there though
