is it still worth learning c++?
why?
Learn HolyC
>>60180410
i will admit embedding flowchart diagrams directly into the code is a nice touch
>>60180334
No, learn Rust.
C++ is a dead language, hasn't been updated in years and only old white men use it.
>>60180601
are you being ironic or serious
it's very hard to tell on this board
>>60180334
No Rust deprecated C++ and C
>>60180334
a lot of software is still written in c++ so it's worth learning to do maintenance
>>60180622
He is highly ironic. Notice the
>only old white men use it
>>60180622
He's trying to protect his job security by directing bandwagon programmers to the current bandwagon that is Rust.

DO NOT LEARN RUST. It is a waste of time. It is the literal definition of a meme. No actual applications use Rust. I have no idea why it is shilled on here, but it is extremely important to not take Rust seriously.

i want to get a software developer job in germany so i can stay here after im done my master's
i am looking at jobs in my area (baden württemberg, germany) and it seems like Java is the #1 sticking out everywhere, with some python sprinkled in between
sometimes it says that C++ is an "asset
explain

if you want to be a permavirgin unemployed loser, learn Rust.
>>60180713
what do you want me to explain?
>>60180761
why is java so popular? i thought it was a dead shit language that nobody used outside of intro compsci
>>60180713
yeah java is easily #1 in the job market. Python, ruby, and some other ones are popular right now too, often for web dev. 'C++ is an asset' probably means that they may have C++ code to maintain but it's not their focus (or yours, if you get the job)
>>60180601
>>60180643
>Outdated
>Hasn't been updated
>C++17
Try harder
>>60180782
this is absolutely FALSE
I was explaining this on another thread earlier this week. This is the type of shit that being on /g/ too much gets you thinking. Java is #1 in the job market. Java is used extensively, and runs on billions of devices you use every day and don't even know. /g/ can teach you a lot but there are a lot of retards here who don't know what they're talking about.

C and C++ have a lot of historical significance. Many legacy applications are written in these languages. These applications are still widely in use and are very important. When performance becomes an issue with a program written in a higher level language, the typical solution is still usually to port it (or parts of it) to C or C++.
C and C++ are the best languages for performance, therefore they will keep on being used. So yes, learn it.
