Installing /g/entoo now. Is it good for Web-Browsing? Gentoo thread.

Yes. It's good for a lot of things, but it's almost perfect for web-browsing. If you wanted to, you could install a very minimal system that only had a twm and a web browser. Make sure to get whatever packages you need for flash and whatnot, if that's wanted

unless you have a constraint that necessitates using gentoo (no systemd, fringe hardware needs) it's kind of pointless
there are minimal distros that don't take nearly the amount of work to get running and to maintain that will meet desktop and laptop use without any problems
that said, i loved running gentoo and the configurability is a lot of fun if you have the time

Gentoo is great for Web browsing because you'll spend too much time dicking around with it to do anything else more productive.

Nope, it has them in the repos for people that need it. You can disable it entirely by putting ACCEPT_LICENSE="@FREE" in /etc/portage/make.conf

Portage is overrated.
It's not the worst package manager, that title is reserved for Yum.
But it is bloated shit written in Python.
Pacman and Apt are better in this regard.
But if you want source based, there isn't really an alternative, maybe Sorcery which is written in bash.

MacOS is better for browsing.

For web-browsing you need the most hardened OS possible. Kali Linux maybe, idk. If you install gentoo, you'll need to tweak it all by yourself.
