What do you need wayland for?
It's just another blob in the line of GNOME 3 and systemd
>>
>waiting for KDE5 to be considered stable
>>
that's me waiting for linux to be a usable desktop OS
>>

wayland actually makes gnome3 run smooth

Wayland is garbage, right? Or has something changed I'm not aware of?

why the fuck would it be garbage?
have you ever used it? it's vastly superior to X11

No I haven't, partially out of laziness, partially because my knee-jerk reaction was apathetic. Is it worth the effort? Does is actually change anything from a day to day usability point of view?
>>
I don't think GNOME devs/shills realize it, but if KDE doesn't end up supporting Wayland, Wayland will flop and we'll be stuck with Xorg for another 50 years.

KDE already uses wayland by default.
Delete xorg, it's gone.
>>
>>60179253
It changes performance and battery life. On my system opengl benchmark 2 times faster with wayland.
You don't need user-space driver to run wayland, only kernel-space (kernel module 1mb in size in case of intel, 30mb for nvidia.

Battery life?

I've been thinking about putting loonix on my X220. Maybe I would consider wayland but I don't know how it deals with those old graphics.
>>
there has to be better reasons to break everything than "X is old".

Everything is just more hassle than with X.
Screen tearing has never been an issue for me. It would make more sense of they made a fast graphics toolkit for the terminal so applications like vim would be faster.
>>
>>60181392
There's a version of X11 implemented on top of Wayland for compatability. Your X apps will work fine under it. The only things that need to be ported ASAP are window managers.

Works on my machine (TM) :^)

Scum like you are the reason nobody takes Linux seriously

Now X is actually good.
