AMD IS A SINKING SHIP

>j..just wait

If ryzen couldnt save them Vega won't.
>>
i wont ever buy amd chip because they been fucking me over for years. ryzen is gonna be same garbage shit you can see right now. fuck aymd fanboys
>>
>>60172436
this t.b.h. AMD was only good probably more than 10 years ago and back then I was /powerpc/. I'm not falling for their memes.
>>
I don't get how AMD could be losing money. Surely they must be making shitloads because of how many consoles they supply components for.
>>
>>60172458
They dont care about enterprise. Nvidia sells gpus for hpc, deep learning and industry. Most servers run intel. If you look at that its kind of obvious who has the better products.

Its time to SELL SELL SELL those AMD shares.
>>

Naples? It rapes Skylake-EX/EP in any 1P/2P system. Which is 98% of the server market.
>>
>>60172506
haha yes some future tech beats current tech wow such innovation.

Maybe if they actually released anything they could compete

The only Skylake or KabyLake based Xeons as of now are 4 core E3 CPUs.
All of the many-core Xeons are STILL Broadwell, and Skylake Xeons will still take a while.
Naples will be out in H2 2017, around the same time Skylake E5 and E7 will be available.

Also, if you haven't heard already, Zen and therefore Naples is extremely efficient at lower clock speeds of around 2.5-3GHz, where AMD currently demolishes anything Intel has in terms of efficiency and performance per watt.
Conveniently, this is exactly the frequency range server CPUs run at, and efficiency is one of the most important features of servers.
>>
>>60172504
Vega and Naples are this quarter
Ryzen 3 is early in second half
Ryzen for laptops is late 2017

and they keep growing, the new surface is choosing ryzen over intel, there will be more manufacturer that will choose ryzen over jewtel.

and whoever says that ryzen is shit, its not. i upgraded my 4770k to 1600 and i am very impressed. it is so much faster and so far i never had issue or any stutters like i had with intel.

Intel just works. Buy Intel if you want quality CPUs. Buy Nvidia if you want industry leading performance.

Nice
Do you also drive a Koenigsegg for Industry Leading Performance(tm)?
>>
>>60172971
You can do better than that
>>
>>60172504
This is the reason why I keep saying that the best thing that could happen right now was for amd to go under so someone could buy them. AMD simply do not has what it takes to compete with Intel and Nvidia. How many years did we have to wait to get a chip that is at the very best a better "bang for buck" when compared to some Intel cpus? How many years more are we gonna have to wait for the next one? How long have we been hearing about Vega this Vega that? How long has Nvidia been dominating the high and mid end market now?

Amd is at the very best a convenient way to protect Intel and Nvidia from monopoly laws. It doesn't provide competition for fucking shit and I'm sick of this "underdog" meme garbage and the obnoxious jehowah witness tier cultists that worship this trash company. I really wish someone with money could buy their assets, fire every single one of their pathetic engineers and get competent people on board, but I might as well write a letter to Santa, because all we have to look forward to is even more mediocrity, even more stagnation and specially even more aggressive shilling from irritating amd marketers making outlandish promises and then pulling a 180 when their next disappointment ships. Great fucking industry.

Meanwhile the 1070 remains untouched for a solid year, and there are currently how many more stronger Nvidia gpus than it now? Still waiting for Vega? PC marketshare is slumping, and might never really recover.
Where will AMD transition to?

Intel has already made clear that their previous bread and butter isn't cutting it anymore. They're investing in the future. Self-driving cars, AI, 5G, Storage-class memory, IoT, datacenter frameworks etc.

What does AMD have that's comparable? Just building chips for people, or even putting chips in servers, doesn't cut it in today's market.

Because diverse product portfolios are always a bad idea. Maybe get your head out of your arse and take a look at the real world. Meme or not, all that stuff is hot shit and will be for at least a few years, Intel are making a smart business decision to invest in those areas. AMD as always will sit twiddling their thumbs screaming about MOAR COARS while their consumer base dwindles because apparently they don't seen to realise there's more markets they could be in if they had a modicum of business sense
>>

Ye, Intel's so good on wasting money on memes like Optane or self-driving memes instead of focusing on CPU R&D. Now look where they are now.
>>
>>60173396

What's worse is people buy it.
>>
>>60174847
AMD employs 9000 people, Intel employs over 100k.

AMD is not going to be able to branch out into new markets without experiencing significant growth. they're already spread thin enough trying to compete with multiple companies far greater than itself.

not that any self-respecting CEO would buy into your meme-spouting retard's notion of how a business should operate. there is no pressing need for AMD to diversify its operations.

>>
>>60174789
>they are buying into this PC master race business.
You are only half-right.
As a segment of PC marketshare, PC gaming has been one of the only growth areas. Even as people buy fewer PCs, the ones they do buy are increasingly gaming-centric. Because why else would anyone buy a massive box when your tablet and phone can do 80% of what you want in the day-to-day?

People are still buying fewer PCs. Intel fired 12,000 people, 11% of its total headcount. Why? They wanted to "accelerate its evolution from a PC company to one that powers the cloud and billions of smart, connected computing devices". They know the future is in the cloud, in mobile. Of course, they gave up on mobile, but they had the right focus.

>>60174884

>j..just wait ${future_amd_product} will be better

>>
>>60174934
You just said it yourself; Intel employs over 100k people. How do you think they got big enough to be able to employ that many people and take risks with what areas of technology they decide to back? Thepoint is AMD just seem to rely on CPUs and nothing else when their Competition is now so large that they don't even have to rely solely on CPUs for income. Whether people like it or not when most people, if they are even aware of what a CPU is, will think Intel whenever the topic comes up, not AMD, which is a sign that AMD needs to do something for brand awareness. If you are 1 of a very small group of companies is doing the same thing and most don't really know or care about your company, or your company is plagued by underwhelming releases year after year then your in trouble
>>
Reminder AMD is holding the CPU industry back. By not competing they have allowed stagnation. Intel could easily finish them but then the anti industry laws would cripple them.
>>
>>60174950
Who even mentioned SSDs or caring about what Intel are doing? The point being made is that Intel aren't putting everything on their CPUs, they are diversifying their portfolio and spreading risk. Whether or not those areas are short lived is irrelevant, what is worse from a businesses stand point: to get a jump on a fad and squeeze as much revenue out of it before the hype dies or to be the company that didn't take the chance and miss out completely on a revenue stream, as short lived as it is?
>>
>>60174884
Yeah just look at where they are now, still THe company when it comes to CPUs with no end to that reign in sight. Oh silly Intel, how stupid they must feel raking in all that cash, if only they had a significantly smaller market share they could've kept their integrity
>>
Buy the dip you retards.
>>
>>60175066
This is a non argument. If you are so big that you've managed to get the most from a saturated market then yes you need to diversify. To say that is a bad thing when your main competition is so minor that they have no choice but to grind out an existence in a market dominated by the larger company is stupid
>>
>>60175580
>when their Competition is now so large that they don't even have to rely solely on CPUs for income.

Are you fucking serious? Look at Intel's earning report, out of 14B revenue, 12.5B are from CPU
>>
>>60175640
DELETE THIS
>>
>>60175667
I'm not saying that CPUs aren't there main source of income, what I'm saying is Intel now have the size and wealth to be able to look into other areas outside of CPUs with minimum risk. I'll concede I worded that aspect poorly
>>
>>60175609
This.

Intel loves AMD, they are the token competition that keeps Intel from being investigated for monopoly.
>>
>>60175684
No, they can't, that makes a wast majority of their revenue, their other targets like IoT and memory are way too low margins to sustain a company like Intel
>>
>>60175705
They are looking into several areas. A lot of smaller revenue streams can still turn out respectable profit overall, and we are assuming that these areas will be fadd and amount to nothing more than short term gains, when the reality is at least one of the areas Intel are now researching will take off whether /g/ believes so or not. Again it's back to would you rather be the big company that has to diversify their range because they've hit maximum saturation in their primary market, or the smaller company that is clinging on to market share in an Intel dominated market, rife with underwhelming product releases?
>>
>>60175736
You can see yourself where this is going, the problem with NVM and IoT is that they're already packed with competitors, the same competitors that sweeped out Intel out of the mobile market.
>>
>>60175768
True but that doesn't automatically mean Intel will be played out of the IoT market. They have the resources and manpower to make a serious effort in that space so Intel can still compete theoretically, Much like Tesla did with the electric car. there was a period where industry guys wouldve said no other electric powered car will do enough to make Toyota nervous regarding their domination of the market with the Prius
>>
>>60175814
Which leads to a different issue, IoT is paper thin margin market, and Intel is a 60%+ margin company with far too expensive products for the market.

IoT cannot sustain them
>>
This thread is retarded, datacenter is almost 40% of Intel's total revenue, it's a GROWING market, while the PC market is stagnant.

Intel is gonna be fine, so is AMD
>>
>>60175882
Again, large companies will often move into multiple smaller revenue streams as the gross from the collective will be enough to justify moving into them. I agree that IoT as it stands is a small profit(relatively) market and if Intel were to put its faith entirely in just IoT then it would definitely lose out. What OP is saying is that Intel are now investigating multiple areas to move into, which changes things from Intel will suffer in IoT due to margins to Intel could stand to make money if they are competitive in a number of thin margin streams
>>
>>60172684
As nuts as this looks, I still want Zen2/3 to add some more IO lanes so we can see 4P systems with 64 DIMMs.

I was not making an argument in favor or against either company, you fanboy /v/eddit manbabby.

I was simply pointing out that the appropriateness of pursuing diversification or specialization depends on the size of the company relative to it's primary markets, and that there is no universal best strategy.
>>
>>60176916
Can't say I'm a fan of Intel or and, I personally couldn't care what happens to either company. And I get what you're pointing out, in fact you've agreed with my point in spite of yourself;Intel are the dominant force in CPUs, they have decided to diversify since they practically own that space and room for growth within that market is/will start to slow, and a large company needs to look into other areas to keep growing

Although DESU I'd guess a lot of this is lost on you, considering you can't objectively debate about something without resorting to name calling when someone doesn't agree with you, much like a child would do

I originally pointed out that different strategies are appropriate for AMD and Intel as they are quite different in size compared to their main markets. You've now spent two posts failing to add anything whatsoever to this point while making a lot of noise.

Fury X competes with 1070.

Why the fuck would they want to even launch a 1080 1080ti competitor? Half-steps and half-measures for good little consumer /v/ermin like you to spend your mom's child support money on.

4k ultra @60fps with a superior VR experience is what they want to sell. Superior, quality products that meet consumers expectations.

He's talking about Cross CCX latency being tied to the RAM bus. By improving that it eliminates a big Achilles heel in the design.

Throw in another actual IPC boost, not Intel Ipc improvement mind you, and Zen+ is looking killer, on top of the 512 AVX they'll be adding.

1. Software devs have to update / build new software to take advantage of Ryzens non-standard architecture changes.
2. Ryzen clocks are running nowhere near the same GHz as Intel Core ix-6/7xxx. One R7-1700X was ramped up to 4.5GHz to match the i7-7700k, it wasn't stable for long but it was able to complete the benchmark run and gave the Intel chip a good thrashing.
The R7-[2/3]700X (which hopefully will benefit from refinement + updated coding) should stomp anything Intel has to offer until their next architectural advance arrives in 2020.
