Back when I played video games for essentially 100% of my day (high school dropout) my dreams felt as though they were being shown to me through a screen and I wasn't physically moving.
Now that I play no video games and am in college, my dreams are back to normal.

After waking up, if you do remember a dream, record absolutely every detail onto a phone or paper.
Once you actually keep a dream journal, you start remembering dreams almost every night. You always dream, it's a matter of whether you are trained to forget them instantly

I just mostly wake up with a blank though without any recollection what so ever of having a dream, but I know that your method helps if you wake up with some sense of what happened in your sleep.

Catch the first dream memory you get, even if its a 1 in 50 chance, and record it as detailed as possible. This should start exponentially increasing your rate of remembrance, even if you started with very low chances.

I remember dreams in terms of events, not sights or sounds. I am fairly sure I had a dream in which I was a comedian entertaining a ballroom with lots of golds and reds and wood. But I was also the president and I got elected during my routine, so everyone was cheering and no one would listen to my jokes.
