They hurt you eyes less when you spend countless hours staring at a screen, especially in the dark. Plus, they look nice.
>>
Easier on the eyes, and uses less battery on AMOLED screens.

This
It's also higher contrast which is nicer

Dark themes are objectively better.

What matters is the content, the content is usually text. Therefore the text should be light (1) and the background should be lack of light (0). The only reason that paper is white because it's cheaper.

Being blinded by a 24" white lamp and trying to look for some dark spots in the field of light just doesn't make any sense. Imagine listening to music, but instead of listening to sounds, you would actually have white noise with some quiet breaks.

>>60150936
paper is white because it's easier to write on it

I actually prefer light themes since most content on websites is light. If you use a dark theme and then switch to something lighter you just get blinded.

Because it's the same color as my soul.

Because there exist 3 types of astigmatism that 50% of the human population are afflicted with in regards to how eyes respond to light,
and one of them causes bright backgrounds with dark letters to be uncomfortable while one other causes the same but with dark backgrounds and bright letters.

Congratulations, you are now a little bit smarter.
A little bit smarter than low-level nigger, but smarter nonetheless.

But it's not easier on the eyes. Look at this picture. The black line appears to be slimmer than the white line. Meaning it looks sharper. Which makes shapes consisting of multiple small lines (like text) easier to read.
Also, you are normally awake and doing things during daytime. When the sun is shining brightly. Giving you a bright background for everything. Which is what your eyes are optimized for. In the dark, your eyes still have to adjust to the brightest source of light as to not get hurt from it. So stop sitting in a dark room staring at your screen. Turn on the lights.
>>
>>60157405
dark themes never use full black, retard.
>>
>>60157405
good point
now how about some proof other than this little anecdote
>>
>>60157416
Implying that fixes the problem.
>>
>>60157416
Which gives you even less contrast. Making it even harder to distinguish from the background. Good work.

>>60157443

Depends on which type of astigmatism you have.
Telling others it's now easier on the eyes is like a lactose intolerant person telling someone who is tolerant that milk is bad.
You only make yourself look retarded.

Dark themes are stupid and I hate when sites uses them.

White text on dark background makes eyes hurt from reading, while black on white background is safer and healther for your eyes too.

But since 12 year old kids, especially boys, LOVES dark themes, I guess this is something you grow out with age.

>>
>>60150696
I used to, but not anymore. Dark theme hurts my eyes.
>>
dark text on a light background is better for your eyes than vice versa.

That's because it stimulates your eyes when you're reading something dark on light therefore your eyes don't need to adjust as much.

The only time a dark theme is good is if you're some kind of pleb who doesn't have good ambient lighting in your room.

'which phone' is the wrong question, did you mean which OS?
i'm using LineageOS, which retains LiveDisplay from CyanogenMod, which does the same thing as f.lux
>>
>>60158006
ah, okay, so you're one of those ROM shufflers who buys junky lagdroid devices and then deals with buggy software for months at a time between switching ROMs
>>
>>60157925
Both lines illuminate/darken about the same amount of pixels (3 at this point). But the bright line illuminates the affected pixels more than the dark line darkens them. Which again proofs the effect anon wanted to disprove with it.
On another note, that is actually a bad photo. Since the full white background is very grey. Which obviously weakens the effect.
>>
>>60158022
excuse me? it's a galaxy s4, a pretty common phone
i put cyanogenmod on it as soon as i got it, never touched the stock rom
the only rom change i've done it switching to lineageos, the reason should be obvious if you know anything about the two
>>

>>60158076
>blurry objects are easier to see than sharp objects
>>
>>60158047
i see what you mean, but it's very subtle, i'd imagine it'd only be a problem on blurry or over-exposed photos, or on displays with light bleed (like crt's)
>>
>>60158088
The phenomenon is the same in both cases, only in the case of the black line, the white background blurs the line inwards, whereas in the other case, the line blurs outwards into the black background. Both are exactly as blurry, but the white line blurs in the right direction.
>>
>>60158088
If you've cut your teeth on CRT screens, that level of blurriness is as naught.
>>
>>60157405
>stand 10 meters away from the screen
>the black line is no longer visible
>the white line is visible all over the place
There's your answer.
>>
>>60151412
If you've got a retard-19:6 monitor you might as well. You might also as well kys.
>>
>>60156821
Even in the odd chance that you're right, you have at least your nomenclature wrong. Astigmatism is about anisotropism in focusing, not how the eyes "respond to light".

>>
There are a couple spots on my screen where the backlight was forcibly compressed into the LCD panel. That made white blotches which are most apparent when displaying light colors. Rather than disassembling the screen to fix the problem I've just switched to dark colors everywhere.
>>
>>60158277
Astigmatism is precisely the correct term and the nature of how the eye focuses in response to stimuli depending on its structure is precisely the difference between why someone gets tired out or uncomfortable depending on whether it is bright background or dark background with respectively contrasting text.
All eyes aren't born the same structurally.
