Dark themes are objectively better.

What matters is the content, the content is usually text. Therefore the text should be light (1) and the background should be lack of light (0). The only reason that paper is white because it's cheaper.

Being blinded by a 24" white lamp and trying to look for some dark spots in the field of light just doesn't make any sense. Imagine listening to music, but instead of listening to sounds, you would actually have white noise with some quiet breaks.

Because there exist 3 types of astigmatism that 50% of the human population are afflicted with in regards to how eyes respond to light,
and one of them causes bright backgrounds with dark letters to be uncomfortable while one other causes the same but with dark backgrounds and bright letters.

But it's not easier on the eyes. Look at this picture. The black line appears to be slimmer than the white line. Meaning it looks sharper. Which makes shapes consisting of multiple small lines (like text) easier to read.
Also, you are normally awake and doing things during daytime. When the sun is shining brightly. Giving you a bright background for everything. Which is what your eyes are optimized for. In the dark, your eyes still have to adjust to the brightest source of light as to not get hurt from it. So stop sitting in a dark room staring at your screen. Turn on the lights.

Dark themes are stupid and I hate when sites uses them.

White text on dark background makes eyes hurt from reading, while black on white background is safer and healther for your eyes too.

But since 12 year old kids, especially boys, LOVES dark themes, I guess this is something you grow out with age.

dark text on a light background is better for your eyes than vice versa.

That's because it stimulates your eyes when you're reading something dark on light therefore your eyes don't need to adjust as much.

The only time a dark theme is good is if you're some kind of pleb who doesn't have good ambient lighting in your room.

Both lines illuminate/darken about the same amount of pixels (3 at this point). But the bright line illuminates the affected pixels more than the dark line darkens them. Which again proofs the effect anon wanted to disprove with it.
On another note, that is actually a bad photo. Since the full white background is very grey. Which obviously weakens the effect.

The phenomenon is the same in both cases, only in the case of the black line, the white background blurs the line inwards, whereas in the other case, the line blurs outwards into the black background. Both are exactly as blurry, but the white line blurs in the right direction.

There are a couple spots on my screen where the backlight was forcibly compressed into the LCD panel. That made white blotches which are most apparent when displaying light colors. Rather than disassembling the screen to fix the problem I've just switched to dark colors everywhere.
