I'm going to work abroad for half a year and I would like to have a relatively powerful PC with me. Besides general hate towards them, what's your actual experience with gaming laptops? Prices range from 700 to 2000+ € here in Germany, but I won't buy anything that costs more than 1500.

I know it's far from an ideal device, but it's my only option if I want a PC abroad.

I bought a asus x751ln which was one of the most powerful machines back then. It's 17,3" which was great when I worked abroad but now it's just a pain in the ass.
17" notebook never again!
I'd now go with a 14" Thinkpad, new i7, minimum 16gb ram and gforce940mx. That's what I'd buy today for a case like yours.
