I have two cats.

Pros of having pet cats:
>never have to take them outside besides vet visits
>they have a designated shitting area which is easy to clean
>small and fairly easy to handle
>compared to dogs, they are quieter
>generally independent: oftentimes feel more like close buddies/roommates than family members. You are not the emotional center of their world, which I find nice.
>quiet lovers. Unlike dogs, who tend to be jumpy and overly excited when receiving attention, a cat will just nuzzle, circle around, and purr when being petted.

>are entertaining to watch when batting around toys/crumpled pieces of paper or whenever they see a bird or squirrel and enter "predator mode"

Cats are pretty cool but you have to be dominant and out boundaries. They are harder to control than dogs in their nature and don't aim to please (basicly, they are mini humans). Depending on the character of the cat raising one will be harder or easier. My first cat was more relaxed and cooperative (since he was born to a house cat) but my second cat is extremely energetic and fiesty since he was abandoned by his mother at 1month and we took him off the street.
