Installed software updates today, and lost my memory mappings. I have given these guys a chance for almost two years now, and their OS is still shit. I don't care how fucking trendy and cool it is to use Qubes, it sucks.
So, what do I use instead? I don't want to go back to Windows. I'm thinking ArchLinux.
how can it be trendy to use something nobody has ever heard of?

I'd say go for Arch Linux. Its stable once you set it up completely. I had an LVM2 LUKS system. Before I switched to Solus.

What's a good gui/desktop?

It really depends. I have been running Deepins desktop(pacman -S deepin & deepin-extra), which is really beautiful. But if you're old school, I love MATE.
Just. Never install the cinnamon desktop if you dont want to find your own...

Solus just had to fuck everything up. They had a centralized, single desktop environment that everyone can use, and now they're branching into having other desktop environments. Why does every fucking GNU/Linux distro fuck themselves by making the process confusing.
