Post your computer's internals please.

What are your next upgrades? Have you done any modding of your case?

I might upgrade to 16GiB RAM and buy RX Vega. The RX 480 will then be handed down to my HTPC for muh h265

I have a i7 4790 (non-k) and a GTX 1060. Don't have any upgrades planned for now. But I'm curious to the performance for the next CPU's in the Zen line-up. Ryzen didn't entice me to upgrade, but who knows when AMD comes out with something new. As for the GPU, I'm not going with a mid-range card again. Next one will be a high-end one, like a Vega or a xx80.

Also I see no reason to upgrade either the 16GB RAM although I have two empty banks (I probably would, if I hadn't bought super expansive RAM back in the day, which would be next to impossible to find nowadays at a non-ridiculous price) or the CPU.

I'd like to have NVME, but even over the PCIe is out of the question since it would disable the x1 lanes for the x4. I could do that only if I would swap out the X-Fi Titanium HD, which I really don't want. I could buy a 1080 and swap out the 780s and use the 4 of the 16 lanes of the second card for an NVME drive, but I don't really see a reason to upgrade the GPUs other than more VRAM.

Soooo I don't think I'll upgrade any time soon anything really.

How do you figure you need a 480 for HEVC?

My broadwell i3 NUC does bitstream HD-Audio with 1080 10bit HEVC without hardware decoding at only 20% CPU load (with Ubuntu booting into Kodi). So it's reasonable to assume it would even do 4K without hiccups without any problems.

So why waste that much electricity on a 480?

Well look at that, I just tested with an h.265 video on the HTPC (albeit 720p) and it only used 20% CPU.

So that would make it unnecessary just for the hardware decoding, but since I probably will buy the RX Vega, the 480 would not have a home in my personal computer anymore and it would fit nicely in the HTPC instead. So I'm not spending any money to upgrade the HTPC, the hardware just kind of trickles down when I upgrade my main computer.

Only days until my Zen shit arrives :3

My DFI P55 and x3470 have served me well, will be cleaned and place in its box, snug and secure.
Ready to calculate, once again..

And it will.

Can't wait to try out some AMD once again, almost got the tingles like back in the 939 days!

Have drilled am4 mounting holes in my waterblock, just need to dust out the matx case and its ready to go.

Hoping for a 4.2ghz capable 1700, but thats not likely.
Its depressing only 4-5 boards have bclk oc support, and none of the b350 or matx boards sadly is included..

Also you should get 16 GB RAM and buy a proper custom GPU next time.

its not terrible, but there are some idiocies. the top has these nonremovable struts for you top place rads and fans and such, but its annoying to deal whith when inserting cpus and coolers. the psu has this antivibration bracket that they want you to install, but the instructions are shit, and i have no idea how to actually put it in. other than that, not bad.

They are, this one is good for 4.2ghz on water. Didn't bother setting it up tho as it is only a temporary system.

Only downside is they only have 16 pcie lanes, but thats not really a problem for my normal use anyway. Still prefer socket 1366 for those 6core xeon monsters with something like 40 lanes! One of those running 4.5ghz are just beastly.

Actually this system could have served me for years to come probably, but fun trying out something new. And I want a smaller system.

how much did the heatsinks on the SSD improve its temps? any performance difference? I saw an article on anandtech where they got an SSD to go into thermal throttling, but I'd imagine you'd have to pound on it to make that happen.
>>
>>60132378
15C. That drive would get up to 65c before I put the heatsinks on, when I replaced it I couldn't push it past 50. I kept them for the NVMe drive since it's known to have throttling issues even over the SATA M.2.

Thinking of getting custom PSU cables. Not sure what color though--maybe white or black.

Don't see where the mess is besides the bottom, and for who isn't the PSU area a mess anyway?

I know I need to fix those motherboard cables, but I recently got operated on and I literally can't bend, otherwise I'd have fixed them.

Really like it. Maybe next set of tubing with the same/similar coolant you can go more squiggly. Would really suit it.

some cases now have a shroud that covers that area to make life easier.
I know phanteks does and maybe corsair on some models, but i dunno

If you get some bright colored cables they will be even more visible, making your mess on display for everyone to see
>>
>>60135649
Oh fuck, you did that. Fuck that's awesome, you've got a good eye for graphic design, thought it was a stock design. Good to know that's a thing that can be done.
Now I'm really jelly.
Home laser? or take it somewhere.

>>60135659
I was going to get the Phanteks Enthoo Evolve, but it only having two front ports was a dealbreaker for me. The Corsair cases aren't very nice looking and scream gamer.

I picked my case because it looks nice, sleek, and had tons of room. Like I said, I'm just going to mess around with the cabling once I can actually bend without feeling massive amounts of pain.

I built this a couple of days before my surgery but kept forgetting to post the pictures.

Soon. (TM)

USB ports ?
I got around that years ago, I found a decent USB hub and just used strong double sided tape and taped it to the back of my monitor near one side, lots of usb ports and easily accessible.
I've got a phanteks Enthoo pro M acrylic, the entire panel is clear acrylic. The downside to that is my mobo (gigabyte gaming 7) has this stupid ass always on light/button , so even when the PC is off I have this light that bothers me >:(

>Not stock fans on cryorig
I changed them to Noctual IPPC 3000 rpm for moar silence, or, if I want, more airflow. All the case fans are those and it pushes some serious air.
Also GPU support because K7 has possible issues with heavy CPU coolers causing failure to post. And GPU sag drives me nuts.
I'm also the guy with that server, nothing special, going to host some game servers on it, Avorion and probably a TF2 server.
>>
>>60137547
Nice! I thought they we're be quiet fans at first and i was just like fuck why, makes more sense now. I've thought about poping a GT or ty-140 in there but im pretty happy in stock with the 2 ap-180s on the bottom.
Nice on the server too, idk if i would have gone platinum psu but there's been good sales so yeah still good choice. I'd post my NAS/mining rig (if you count that as a server) but no pictures of the NAS and everyone on /g/ mindlessly shits on mining rigs so
I didnt realize it was supporting the cpu cooler, in that case it makes a lot more sense.
>>
>>60137481
naw there's a fan in the middle. the other one was hitting on the ram, so I had to take it off. (cheaper, ricer model)
>>
>>60137593
Yeah it's designed for two cards, in a normal mid tower ATX case. My full tower ATX is taller and I only have one GPU so I support my GPU with one shelf and the cooler with the other.

I got the platinum PSU because I wanted something that I could rely on and not worry about being a housefire (LOL WHY USE AN 8350 AMD HOUSEFIRE LOLOL) while I'm away. I'm aiming for this to be up 24/7 so my friends and I can jump on whenever we want, and hoping to learn a bit more about Linux setting this up and running it.

fair enough on the psu. My 8350 is looking to get retired here soon as well, either for a simple homelab and running some virtualization or for a stream capture/offload rendering/basic server duty.

>Do those top 2 fans really help with heat though? in my experience they dont, especially with dual tower heatsinks.
That's why I took out one of them. I will probably remove the remaining one when I upgrade my gpu.
My old case was small, cramped and hot. So I got paranoid and went over the top with fans setup for this new case.
>>
>>60137865
gotcha. i had the same thing when i changed cases before the ft05, found it made 0 difference and a whole lot of noise. Even with a single tower heatsink i dont think it would matter unless you had something like 2 290x cranking heat into the case, even then it would probably be limited, like 1-3c

Fuck this case. Partial culprit might also be the +20°C Ryzen puts on your CPU temp sensor, thus forcing higher case fan RPM without tweaking. Still the airflow is a fucking nightmare though.

Dear /guts/.

I kinda asked you guys before for help with high temperatures for my CPU (i7-6700k with NH-U12S as cooler) and GPU (Sapphire RX480 Nitro). I have now two spare fans - one 130mm and one 120mm (from cpu cooler not in use). Where would be best to mount them for case showed on pic? I guess for GPU it would be good idea to mount one at the bottom, but the questin is - should it pump air inside the case (cooler air from outside directly at GPU fans) or should it rather pump hot air from inside the case outside?

The case in question is Corsair 200R. Sadly, Im afraid that I cant mount fan next to HDD drives, due to lack of space (yet, it have mounting holes for that). Also, tried to push as much cables at the right side, behind motherboard, but I dont have space for that left.

Thanks for any replies and help.
>>
>>60141819
Are you saying you can't put an intake fan to bottom middle? That'd be a good spot if you have a dust filter there too. Other than that a top exhaust would probably help. Or a lower side panel intake if you have space for it.

The tangle in the middle is probably messing your intake up somewhat, which is affecting airflow.
>>
>>60141933

No, I was thinking about second front fan under the one already here, on the right in pic, behind HDD case.

So, intake on the bottom and exhaust on the top? But wouldnt that top one disturb CPU cooler work?

Sadly, motherboard have only 2 inputs for case fans, so those two would have to work on full speed and thus be pretty loud. Unless there is a solution for that?

Also, I dont have dust filter at the bottom (except the one under PSU) but I guess I can use cheap low-den cut pantyhose for similar effect.

>>60141970
You could simply get an Y-splitter for one or a few of your PWM cables if the mobo doesnt support enough of them for your liking. There are also fans that can share a PWM signal to others, like the Arctic F12 Pro for example.

Top exhaust doesn't really disturb the CPU cooler's work. As long as you have a fan pushing air through the aluminum grills, it's all fine. More air blowing out near the CPU is actually usually more effective cooling-wise rather than getting more in, I think. On the downside it means that more dust will be sucked into the case.
>>
>>60141970
what temps are you getting?
>>
>>60137174
Yeah, it's a Nanoxia. Like it, except for the cable management. What you can see here is the best possible, routing the cables sticking out from the case along the walls etc., so they form an arch. Reason is the backside doesn't really have much space, mainly due to the padding, so I can' fit more. SATA cables are twisted to save space, stole the idea from another guy.
Cooler is an Alpenfoehn Ben Nevis, more than enough for my puny i5-6600.

Up to 72C for CPU with 100% load (Normally I get max 55-65C depending on what Im running, typical idle is 20-25C). GPU reach even 82C, with 50C on idle.

My next upgrade is probably going to be a platform upgrade to move away from Haswell, though this PC is used for games and I haven't yet ran into issues with game performance because of my 4.7GHz 4790K at 3840x2160. I'm looking for something which is an actual upgrade from all points of view, as in I don't want to dump a significant amount of money into a different platform to get moar coars but worse single-threaded performance.

>>60141819
General rules for fan placement are
>all intakes should be filtered
>intakes in the front or on the bottom, exhausts in the back or on top
>positive pressure is good (stronger intake vs. exhaust) - positive pressure means your case isn't sucking in dust through cracks and small openings
>exhaust is important though, need to manage your ambient temperature
In a regular single-GPU, air-cooled build like yours there's not much to worry about in terms of temps though as long as you have some basic airflow going. I would mount an extra fan on the bottom if there's a dust filter there.
>>
>>60142507

Actually, teh only dust filters are at the PSU and front of case.

www.corsair.com/en-us/carbide-series-200r-compact-atx-case
>>
>>60142535
That's pretty shit, though if you really want to add another fan I'm pretty sure you can get separate dust filters, even magnetic ones which would make it easy to remove to clean.
>>
>>60142219
neato, dont see many nanoxia cases
>>
>>60142596

>That's pretty shit

;_;

To be honest, where I live its rather one of the more expensive cases. Most popular tho are Zalman and SilentiumPC ones, but Zalman had bad user reviews (cheap compared to Corsair cases but many people reported poor quality of components, bending plastics and so on).

As for dust filters, one anon in other /gusts/ thread suggested cheap stretched pantyhose as filter and as funny as it sounds, it might actually work. First I wanted to use anti-mosquito net, but had doubts.

Yeah, those low-end cases won't be as good as Corsair most likely. I've had my fair share of no-name shit quality cases too. Pantyhose should actually work, I wanted to use it myself for a few things but the real "issue" is how you're going to mount it and stretch it so it covers the intake completely while also making it relatively easy to take off to clean. Are you going to make your own frame? I suppose that should be entirely doable though I'm not sure a pre-made filter is expensive enough to warrant the effort.

Yeah, it is. The airflow in it is great especially with the h100i in a push/pull config with 4x Noctua NF-F12's which are very pressure optimized for rads imo. And my Zotac 1080 never gets hot its rare if it even hits 60c to be honest. Honestly im not even sure if i got positive pressure i havnt tested this new case yet to see if i do. however i mean even if i didnt as long as shit runs cool i dont mind dusting it out more often because of some negative pressure.

as of now i put little heatsinks on the vrm's now. the card is a gtx 970. i put the heatsinks on it because why not. the gpu chips get a bit warm sometimes
>>
>>60144239
I have this case too and I'm having trouble getting air flow as well.
I put a piece of cardboard over the hole that goes into the basement to keep the fans from pulling air from inside the case.

What's wrong WD blues?
>>
>>60124699

Why the fuck would you over-do the vibration mounts like that? I've had a drive in my fractal cases, and shittier cases for 5 years and it's fine. 750GB WD Blue.
>>
>>60148223

Speed performance.

I guess you only run Word and Powerpoint so you should be set.
>>
>>60148189
>Zotac is a poor decision
Their cards literally have the highest aftermarket OC.
>>
>>60148275
The EZEX has reasonable performance

Single platter does fine
>>
>>60148314
The one I have in particular has the fastest out of the box speed for 1080's, which is why I bought it
>>60148275
I've had it for 4 years and it's never had a single problem
>>
>>60148189
It's a 1TB Blue. Considering the length of time the 1TB/platter drives have been out, that's almost certainly the latest, so he's more than fine. That's one of the best performing drives out there.

Not the most recent pic, I've since reworked the loop a bit and flushed the system cause the pump jammed on some black particulate shit. Probably my own fault since I didn't flush it intially before putting the coolant in. Running plain demineralized water with biocide now.

i7 6700k, geforce 1080.
>>
>>60146280
i still dont get this build. you have radiator, radiator, gpu, cpu in a loop. why not cpu radiator gpu radiator, so youre cooling in between components?

Just built this one with my gf

1600x
16g Corsair ddr4
Ax370 taichi
Cooler master haf x evo

Working on drivers and bios now, case was actually really nice to build in.
>>
Why so many 1kw PSUs for single gpu builds?
>>
>>60151071
Because i got a good deal. I got it for cheaper than a 750 or 650.
>>
>>60151071
For me it's because I'm expecting Vega to be a fucking power hungry monster, and possibly may run dual GPU in the future
>>
>>60151057
Doesn't make all that much of a difference honestly. It's more about rad surface area to dissipate total heat in the loop rather than placement. The water flows quickly through the water blocks so there's only a few degrees difference (if that) from the intake to the outlet.
>>
>>60151071
Room for gpu expansion.
>>
>>60151010
Not bad. Was there no way you could mount the cpu heatsink vertically?
>>
>>60151279
Ment for
>>60151066
>>
>>60151279
>>60151296
Well technically the board lays flat so it's always kind of vertical, this pic is from the top looking into the case, but I understand what you mean, align the fan with the path of air flow, rather than conflicting with path of airflow, and no, the way the cooler master 212 evo bracket works it doesn't let you mount it the other way, she might be getting another shorter cooler anyhow because the 212 evo has clearance issues with a top mounted 200mm fan that we were going to install. Probably going to recommend a thicker cooler like one of the Be quiet or something, just have to make sure it's not as tall.

any websites that sell it and ship internationally? is only the windowed version offered in white?

To get the window you need to order the white Nano S then order the white windowed side panel separately. So it comes stock with non-window panel. Not sure about overseas shipping.

You should flip the GPU rad so the hoses come out the bottom. That way the pump isn't sucking air out of the top of the rad.

what are you doing to your cpu that you need that many fan? room too hot?

how many sysfan does ya'll mobo have anyway. I think I have like 2 only excluding the cpu fan
>>
>>60154915
Case fans are usually for removing the heat dumped by the GPU(s) inside the case.
>>
>>60153507
im thinking about going to a 580 from a 460 myself.
>>
>>60156730
It certainly is a big performance jump. I've been happy with my 460 so far, but a friend was interested in buying it so I took the chance
