So NAS or server?
NAS would be 660€ and a server like 900€ or more.
>>
I can't connect to my server running mpd using MPDroid. These are the iptables rules I have:
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 8000 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 8000 -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6600 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 6600 -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT

Using telnet I get the following:
On port 6600 I get connection refused.
On port 8000 I am connected before the connection is abruptly closed by foreign host.

What am I missing?

it's just so you can use either

the board has molex on it, if you don't have a spare molex on your supply, you can use the adapter to use use a sata power connector instead

>Difference between NAS and server
A server is like a normal PC, it runs an OS and can do anything a PC does.
Pre-built NAS are just hubs most of the times, some come with more features but they're pretty much dumbed down servers that cannot do anything else besides connecting your PC to the drives that you will use in the NAS.

>NAS would be 660€
You can find much cheaper ones, even below 150€ up to 4 bays, still, you could also use a cheap mobo and make a server with it, though that will require some extra component, more work and some expertise.

But yeah, then I'll try to get him to get a server wit ha cheap xeon or whatever so he can have some stuff on it.

some anons use mini pcs like raspberry pi to create seedboxes/servers but honestly I find them a pain in the ass to configure since they require a lot of custom crap to run, even though they're cheap as shit compared to nas/server setups.

I totally forgot about those. But these are weaker than most NAS with celeron, and low RAM. I guess that a mini PC with a mobile CPU would work, or maybe an all in one mother board.

completely different technology
one big limiting factor is that ram needs to be able to read/write individual bytes in extremely small amounts of time, ssd's aren't so direct, they can batch IO up and read/write big blocks of 100's of KiB at a time, this doesn't need nearly as many pins

2. ram uses dram chips, not flash chips, they are very different technologies

that's not what rooting means, rooting means gaining access to the root user, which only applies to operating systems that have a root user, like linux
dumb phones are typically simpler, single-user operating systems, with no concept of users

to be clear, python is an interpreted language, so the files you execute are also the sources
the windows .exe is simply the python sources with a python interpreter integrated, avoiding the need to have python installed separately, which is a pain on windows because >no package manager

At the risk of sounding like a complete fucking retard, here goes:
I upgraded my GPU to an AMD R9 290x a little under 2 years ago, and decided to go with MSI because the general opinion on them seemed rather positive. However, recently, a strange noise started emanating from my PC. I can only really describe it as a sort of soft crackling noise. I looked into it and decided it must be originating from my GPU, I'm not 100% sure, and I guess the only way I can really be sure is to unplug it and switch to integrated graphics and see if the sound persists. The sound is almost constant, even the most minuscule load like moving my cursor or displaying a .gif makes the sound occur.

I've tried searching for the issue, asking people who are more knowledgeable on hardware than I am, etc. I still haven't been able to determine the issue, so here I am. I've recorded a sound clip of the noise, but I had to use my phone as I have nothing better at hand, and the sound quality leaves to be desired, but I hope it might help identify the issue. This was recorded while I had my web browser window opened, that's literally it.

https://my.mixtape.moe/pkkech.mp3

TL;DR GPU supposedly makes a fucking weird and worrisome noise even when not under load, no idea what it could be.

>How is this security?
TLS/SSL provides end-to-end encryption, so the messages can't be read or altered by a third party. so for example, this makes it possible for you to send a password without everyone on the network being able to read it

in order to establish the tunnel, you have to know who you are trying to tunnel to. this is the purpose of certificates. as an all-purpose "identity" system certificates are weak, and they definitely do not purport to be curated whitelist of "good guys"

there are other technologies that help with authentication such as DNSSEC, but philosophically what you want is difficult and would probably amount to a license to own a website
>>
>>60112538
partial "internet" failure is almost always due to a bad DNS server. try pointing your DNS at 8.8.8.8, which is Google DNS. it's not any good for privacy but it never goes down so you can use it to test

Question: WHAT do I need to download to make my movies look good?

Looking to get a replacement screen assembly for my android tablet, which I cracked up pretty good almost a year ago.

After looking around, it seems like my options are amazon, ebay and aliexpress. Ali seems to have the lowest price for what I'm looking for, but I've never bought anything from them before. Is it worth the lower price to go with one of theirs, or would I just be asking for trouble in some way?

You don't install "motherboard drivers". After you put in the new mobo, you can boot windows and see if it repairs itself automatically. Otherwise just do the clean install. A clean install is pretty much always a good idea anyway, so you can just jump to that if you want.

I need some advice, or maybe some insight.
A week ago, my house got struck by lightning. Everything on one circuit got fried, including a router and my computer. I had the computer on a surge protector, but maybe lightning strikes aren't exactly what they're for. Silly me.

Anyway, upon hitting the power button, things that require usb power flash their lights for a second and thats the only result. I haven't opened it yet, since i have been away, but the first thing i'll look at is the PSU. I will pull it out and jump the pins to power it to see if its fried. I mean it has to be.
What should i do next? Is it likely anything else is done for?

Likely corrupted file that's trying to load and causing system crash, possibly system file itself with delayed load after login. Try booting into safe-mode with command prompt and running "chkdsk c: /R" (might require reboot to do at boot time) could have been caused by a bad sector on your drive.

Additionally if you have a system disk can try having it validate system files and repair. If possible, back up your important data first (easy enough with the right tools..) hopefully you have a removeable sata drive that can just be attached to another desktop otherwise

>>
>>60117395
>but it's not in backports.
so? backport it.

1. go to packages.debian.org search for you package, open the sid version
2. on the right side you can see source files. Download the original source and the debian changes. Unpack the original source and the debian files package
3.a. if the debian changes is a patch file, apply it:
cd program-orig-source
patch -p1 < program-debian-changes.patch

3.b. if the debian changes contains a directory called "debian" copy it in the original source dir
4. make sure your original source tar and the debian patches tar are just outside of your original source unpacked dir
5. go to the unpacked source dir and do
dpkg-buildpackage

6. install any packages dpkg-buildpackage asks you
7. when it's finished, outside of the source dir you'll find the backported .deb packages built from the source. Install those you need.
>>
>>60117453
Technically all you need is your home IP address.
Your ISP however likely provides you you with a dynamic address (one that changes every few days), so you can't always be sure what your current home IP address is.
You can solve that problem by using a dynamic dns service (there are free ones like noip.com). They provide you with a subdomain (like me123.noip.com) that always points to your home IP address. For that to work you have to configure you NAS server to regularly update the DNS entry.

My input is coming from a guitar clip-on pickup (fcp-21 if you bother to look it up) and by the looks of its jack has only the tip and the sleeve, so I'm guessing I should disregard the - part of the inupt and only connect the jack on the + part of the input, right? Also, it looks to me like output is going to be mono, or positive only, so when I connect the output to a jack, should I connect it only to the tip, even if the jack has both the tip and the ring?

Considering authorities probably has tools to recover data from a disk which has been overwritten with zeros (theoretically they could recover some 50% or something, but practically I doubt they'd recover much), and that even that process can be quite slow on large disks (how much time do you need?), a better option is probably making some DIY microwave emitter which cooks your drives and destroys them immediately. I think even that would require the actual platters to be outside the drive case, not sure.

Look up body language guides/tuts in google. Learn to know when someone is interested in talking to you.

You'd be surprised how far you can get with someone by asking them how their day is going. Half of the time they say "good, how about you?" A quarter of the time they say "bad" and you can ask why, and that'll strike up a convo.

because people forget them all the time and they contain important information.

similar to how you can reset a user account's password on a mac without any tools at all including the admin account because people forget them and there are important informations on there.

the password option on macs are so useless that after you reset the user password, all the data in that user account are accessible to you.

might as well just steal your crush's MBP and reset the password to see if there are any nudes in there.

when she gets it back, she won't be able to log in and will probably call apple care who will guide them through the same step to reset the password as well

A 3470 could do web browsing with 3 cores tied behind its back. For gaming it depends. Outside of VR a lot of games still won't do much with hyperthreading, although some are a little better. Also check the speeds of the fan.
Speccy should report it under CPU section, Speedfan otherwise.

Unless its a DC and not a PMW fan, it wont report temperatures.

You will have to open it anyway and when you do try to move the fan with your finger, if you feel it rigid/stiff change it, should be $20 tops, but if its more buy a new laptop, a $70 Thinkpad is way better than that PC.

People in security threads always say that if the feds came to seize a computer, even when you cut power the RAM will still be readable for like 15 minutes or something, so that they can still read it and use it as evidence.

So why not just open a bunch of memory-hogging programs on your computer to overwrite your RAM before shutting down? I reckon RAM would be fast enough that you could overwrite 8 or 16GB in seconds.

>>

Intuitively, I think you're right. RAM is volatile af. But I keep hearing people say it can be recovered with proper equipment for a much longer amount of time.

I'll do a bit of searching and see if its just some misinformation.
>>
>>60121558
I imagine they'd have equipment that would allow them to keep it powered while in transport, but I'm sure for that to even be effective they'd also have to catch it while it's still powered on.
>>
>>60121558
There's such a thing as "Cold Booting", where the RAM holds data for a much longer time when at sub-zero temperatures, but that only applies when the feds get your phone or laptop, and the device is still on.

They basically freeze the device while it's still powered up, solder on their diagnostic tools to boot their own OS, reboot the phone, and dump the memory contents.

How does a computer use the two ram slots?
for example I have 2x4gigabytes of ram, and my ram usage is currently 5gb , is 5gb split between the two ram slots (like in a RAID) or the computer uses the first 4gb ram first then assigns the 1gb on the other 4gb ram
>>

I would plan on either getting Fair, Good, or Very Good.

In SQL how would you update the value of primary key of a record being referenced by foreign keys (without cascade constraints) without changing/creating the structure of tables or turning off foreign key checks?

I don't know if this is right but the way I have it now is appending an underscore to all candidate keys, then creating a new record with the new primary key value, copying all column values (without the underscores). Then, I update the other table records foreign keys to point to the new record and delete the old one.

It works, but it seems a bit messy and convoluted. Is there a better way?

64 is usually a bit better for performance in terms of CPU demands, however takes a bit more RAM and disk space, so for super low end windows tablets with like 1GB RAM 16GB flash, they usually stick with 32 even though it could run 64.
