I was brought on as a Systems Engineer intern, but was placed on the data storage team which has to do with our messaging/logging pipeline and some of the MySQL portion of it (though I've done practically nothing with the MySQL side of things).

I've enjoyed the fuck out of it; work is cool, the tech is cool, and my coworkers are fun. I put together a tool that helps streamline the process to get the devs logs into our pipeline and lint some stuff which apparently is pretty helpful. There's potential to open source it as well which would be pretty sweet.

My manager said since the tooling team is full atm they'll likely just keep me where I am which is perfect as I enjoy everything I've been doing so far. I'll just be labeled a Data Engineer instead.

- Originally CS major, turns out I don't have the discipline for it, but I still was interested in the material
- Switched to IT, continued to program and learn on my own
- Worked at a couple pizza places while attending, that sucked, but free pizza now and then was great
- Couldn't find a job after graduating, professor offered to let me continue research work and whatnot in the master's program, decided why not (sorta bad idea)
- Second semester in decide this is a stupid idea, I don't enjoy sitting through CS versions of the IT courses I took, drop out while working at the university part-time, while applying I got super depressed, felt like everything I learned was garbage and I was garbage, parents were pissed, I really did feel like shooting myself at one point, I'm not even joking. Feeling like a failure and my parents being disappointed in me did not do wonders for my mental state
- During last semester, apply for some internships, and the same internship I tried last year where my friend works
- Find an internship in town, one week in, place up north calls me and says I'm in and I start in a month, tell my current internship "sorry but I got to leave in a week", which kind of sucks, pay was crap but the people were really nice, work was easy too
- Started in February, was pretty worried if I was going to get an offer but after speaking with my coworkers (and eventually my manager) they were extremely happy with my work and were wondering why I wasn't offered anything earlier
- Now one month out to my internship end, feels great, just wondering if when I move if I should bring my cat or not

Finding a job is probably the shittiest fucking experience I've ever gone through. I'm not stupid, I know that, but looking for jobs it's hard to not feel like complete garbage. I have skills, an eagerness to learn and to get stuff done, but no one wanted to talk to me. Legitimately made me feel like shooting myself.

This isn't something that you want to get yourself into, and you're absolutely correct, it's not hard in the fact that the actual day to day tasks of it are not difficult. (gauging competition prices/quality, obtaining source, the typical day to day transaction)
Here comes the hard part:

you're going to tell yourself you're going to sell only "safe" drugs in small quantities, but if you're ANY good at what you're doing and can move product quickly, you're going to turn a profit margin quickly. "I'm only selling an ounce a week to friends to smoke for free", which is where I began when with my mentality five years ago. The flip becomes addicting after a while, easy money.

After a while, the temptation of all the money gets to you and you expand into multiple drugs (NOT WEED) where the money is at.

Now, you will obviously procure a base of consistent bulk resellers. These guys are a big risk. You worry about them all the time and the moment they get caught, they flip 90% of the time, but that's okay, you push such large amounts of weight and they give you all that money in about 5 minutes after testing the product. You go home at the end of the week and deduct the re-up for your profit, and calculate that you worked this week for at an average of about 80-100 dollars an hour.

You think about quitting but you never do, you tell yourself one more flip and I'll be good. It's happened to the majority of the dealers I know now and knew long ago, you either are good at it and live a life of paranoia and stress, but hey, at least you have money, or you're shitty at it and get caught doing something dumb like drunk driving with an ounce and are labelled a felon.

tl;dr drug dealing is not worth the stress or paranoia, or your freedom. There's another reason why they the trap can refer to the lifestyle, because it's fucking hard to leave once you taste $$$
