Choosing not to install GeForce Experience is no longer enough to stop them installing a telemetry program which is constantly running in the background. It's now built into the driver itself.

https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/647nbe/new_38165_driver_moves_telemetry_data_collection/

Damn... guess I'm selling my GTX 1080.

Never ever. Your data is more valuable to big companies than you are. Microsoft have already proven that normies don't give a shit about being spied on, so everybody else can now feel free to start doing it too.

Here's how you install the essential part of the driver:

Take 381.65-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe and use 7-zip to extract all the files from the setup program in a folder.

Only leave the following files (the newest update introduces a number of new folders but its safe to delete those too) Here's an illustration: http://i.imgur.com/G7m22gt.png

Run setup.exe

PSA: Laptop users might want to keep the Optimus folder intact. Removing it may cause issues.

That's complete bullshit though. Raptr hasn't been bundled with the AMD driver for a long time, and they've never had a telemetry executable running on your system at all times like Nvidia currently do. Not to mention that Raptr was optional garbage that anyone with any sense uninstalled. You're forced to use Nvidia's equivalent if you want basic features like ShadowPlay, whereas ReLive is part of the AMD control panel.

It's like buying most modern electronics desu. Anything that can be a botnet is a botnet. Even modern TVs spy on you. We're now at the point where Amazon feel confident enough to literally sell you an always-on camera and microphone so they can watch over you. And the best part is that people are dying to get their hands on one.

I'm using NVIDIA Inspector 1.9.7.8. That's your overclocking and fan control interface with a button to take you to profiles which is called NVIDIA Profile Inspector 2.13. What you want to reference for your download is the first.

>>60103724
I assumed that all their advertisement wasn't lies, it's true that this is on me. But it is also true that on account of amd being the only (theoretical) competition to nvidia, they're also the only ones toward who optimism could be directed. Beside, ultimately, amd decided to become as bad as nvidia instead of gaining market share by not playing catch-up in a game of who can be the most heinous.

I'm so happy I jumped ship to my decidedly non-enthusiast class RX 480 (from GTX 670).

And you can go to the help menu and disable the improvement program.

But let me guess, even though the outcome is the same, AMD is just better because theirs is a special, underdog type of off button

>Get the same result, but now you're running a full fledged software like on the side eating up RAM for the same result.

Or just use Shadowplay since it's service based and isn't some bloated piece of software with 50,000 options trying to be broadcast worthy

>It's in fucking "help"? Not "settings"?

the nvidia control panel doesn't have a "settings" tab since it opens directly to the primary options window. considering it used to be buried in the GFE and not even visible, I really don't get why this is suddenly a problem if not for reactionary faggots making a big deal out of nothing.

yeah in a perfect world where the end user has full control over the product there shouldn't be any on-by-default telemetry collection bullshit without the users express consent, but this is what we've got. if anything, nvidia made the option more visible.
>>
Use virtualization (PCI passthrough) and do all your i_dont_want_to_be_spied_on stuff in the host running linux.
>>
>>60097318

>nodejs
Is this real ?
>>
You can't assume that a feel-good check box is going to disable telemetry when Nvidia's source code isn't available. I draw the same conclusion with Windows.

This only further proves that if you care about privacy, your Windows box should be a gaming platform only. Your Xbox and PS4 both spy on you, and Windows is no different. They're all gaming boxes only. Keep your personal PC separate from your gaming boxes.
>>
>>60096966
Jokes on them, I don't game and use nouveau on an old ass graphic card.
>>
>>60109836
That's what I do to get away from some of it, and surprisingly is more comfy than running windows bare metal. Since you can be running an application in full screen mode and move to the host OS on the other screen seamlessly as though it were in borderless windowed mode (even if the application cannot run in borderless windowed mode which is great). Haven't had any issues so far running all matter of programs in VM, even managed to get the HTC vive to work flawlessly.

Passing the dedicated GPU back to host is a pain in the ass (with Nvidia at least havent tried with AMD).
Previously I used to run my HD4600 iGPU multi-monitor on the host permanently, I am surprised it was able to handle 2160p 30Hz and 1080p 60Hz simultaneously. If I wanted to run my VM I switched input on my 4K to DP where the dedicated GPU was connected. This method worked consistently but I had to manually toggle input on my 4K monitor every time I start/shutdown the VM and was limited by integrated graphics on the host.

What I have done now is a little trickier, I hooked up my Nvidia GPU to both monitors and connected the 1080 monitor to an HDMI A/B switchbox with both GPUs (that monitor has only one DVI input). What I have to do is run Nvidia settings and go to Nvidia PRIME changing the main GPU to Intel if I want to run a VM or revert to NVIDIA as main GPU at host.
Downside is that you have to logout and log in every time you swap GPUs on host for the change to take effect, and it eventually fucks up when I change the switchbox input back and forth causing NVIDIA prime option to dissappear, so I eventually have to restart.
might go back to previous configuration.

I hope wayland makes this mess easier, I still prefer this to being locked to iGPU on host since that is where I spend most of my time and sometimes want the dedicated GPU. Running another linux VM and pasing GPU to it is an option but I'd rather not.
