So now that Firefox for Android doesn't do background video playback anymore as of the recent update, what can I use as a substitute?
It still works on the Nightly build for me.
NewPipe. It's also more lightweight for only browsing YouTube.
just install an old version

Literally the only reason to use Firefox for android, wtf?
They really want to kill the browser.

I actually use it to have an adblocker on a non-rooted phone.
Chrome can't adblock.

It works fine for me on Nexus 4 with Lineage.

>They really want to kill the browser.
The problem is on youtube's side, not from firefox, as it also affects old versions or ESR versions like Icecat.

Have you tried Lightning?
Has an adblocker built in although not sure how good it is since I use adaway anyway.
Also a lot faster than FF, page that took me 30secs to load on FF only took 2secs on Lightning.
Make sure to get it off of F-Droid for the adblocking though

Can confirm
Playing a YouTube video on YouTube pauses when you leave the browser
Playing the same video as an embed from a Bing video webpage allows it to run in the background
Does anybody have a work around that works rn?
After the last update I can no longer browse for files to upload to 4chan. I click browse and it asks me for permission to take pictures. It already has file browsing permission. No matter what permissions I give it, it won't browse the file system on my phone. Anyone else encounter this?

Use clover
Firefox for android would be perfect if it was'nt so slow and retarded. Ublock origin, Https everywhere, noscript, smart referer, decentraleyes, BetterPrivacy available on a cellphone is god-tier
You can even use Phony to spoof your user-agent
