I've never used Windows 8, 8.1 or 10. Seven was always too comfy for me to consider upgrading.

But now that MS is blocking updates for 7 on newer systems, I'll probably need to switch to Linux and just run Windows virtually when needed. I want a Ryzen system after all and I ain't going to 10.

I didn't have crash either, but after restart (from hibernation) many program don't start on enterprise. At first i thought i screwed up something in grub, but fixing uuid didn't helped. Currently i don't use windows, but currently the only version i would use is 7 or 8.1 with some gui fix.

well, from what I read online during the testing and helping others fixing their issues with Win10, BSOD when hibernating usually occurs due to driver issues. looking good, OP. i actually got an installation CD for windows 7 PE a couple days ago, but it looks like i'm going to need a PS/2 keyboard/mouse just to get through the installation screen for some weird reason (no other solutions i've tried have worked). but other than that, i've got no gripes about windows 7, from what i can remember. can't wait to get the fuck off of 8.1, i want my comfy classic theme back. i'm tired of the minimalist-as-hell look of windows 8.1 and 10, and i'm stuck with shitty replicas of the old classic themes. plus, to add onto that, windows 8.1 and definitely 10 just seem like they've stripped down the personalization and instead replaced that with Sleek™ and Modern™ designs to make room for hip and cool touchscreens.

only reason i even have windows 8 in the first place is because i bought my PC only a while after windows 8 got released and just tried to tolerate it since because everyone told me it would be a mistake going back to windows 7

I plan to finally upgrade from my 3770k -era PC to Skylake-X and will use Windows 7 as my OS. Those people are complete idiots who really think that Microsoft built Windows 8/10 from ground up and it's the net best thing.

everyone seems to know that despite the botnet/telemetry being back ported through updates, it can be avoided by not updating. How can you tell that there's no telemetry? We can't know because it's proprietary- windows 7 could have, and probably did spy on users since day 1.

Linux user here. I have one financial program that doesn't work very well in wine and I'm thinking of running it in a windows virtual machine. I'm wondering which version of windows uses less RAM, 7 or 10LTSB?

They both use up about 1-2GB unless you tweak them. Shut down unused services maybe use nlite or another deployment tools to remove larger components. I'm not sure about Win10 and if this is doable as of yet though.

I just searched for that and the nlite page refers to ntlite for support for windows 10 LTSB, so should I take it that this would be the most lightweight windows? It just needs to run one financial app its not gaming or multimedia so I guess I should be able to strip it down a lot.

So do a tiny install of 10 then install 7 and boot 10 if you insist on updating BIOS, which is typically a waste of time. Alternate option, install 10 on a spare hard disk you keep for such fuckery. Another alternate option, set up a USB with WinPE for installing firmware updates.

I don't get why people want to change OS unless their old one becomes dysfunctional. I also don't get why reinstalling or installing a new or older OS is worrysome.

Try it out in a motherfucking VM. If you need it on bare metal later, you'll be familiar, and you can migrate the VM to your new host install so YOU CAN TRY NEW SHIT IN A VM BEFORE installing to your host.

I keep install media for everything I might want (from DOS 6.22 up) and it's trivial to wipe and reload if you weren't lazy as fuck when things were running well.

Shit's easy as fuck if you PREPARE yourself. You can download software and OS while shitposting on 4chan. You can set up VMs while shitposting on 4chan. You can load OS install USB flash drives while shitposting on 4chan, then drop a folder of your postinstall applications onto that same flash drive. You can make multiboot flash drives tho I just accumulate them.

You can load a live OS to a flash drive to boot and surf da web for info if your install shits the bed and you only own one PC, and you can use that to shitpost on 4chan.

I have windows 8 and 7. Because of a weird bug on Windows 10, it made my computer completely crash and I had to wipe the hard drive. I had to do this all on the command prompt through the boot menu 10/10 won't recommend downloading windows 10
