Yeah, it isn't that AMD is backwards, but that for many users, sandy and ivy bridge are still feasible processors for this day and age.

'Moar corez' isn't just a meme. How else may you improve performance when you can't by 'tick-tock' or architectural change anymore? AMD's Zen architecture is the most interesting thing to happen in the last 5-8 years for that very reason.
